Hockey World Cup: England set for semi-final against hosts

England captain Barry Middleton says his team are not thinking of revenge when they play hosts Netherlands in the Hockey World Cup semi-finals on Friday.

A number of players featured in Great Britain's 9-2 defeat by the Dutch in the semi-finals of London 2012.

England are attempting to reach their first World Cup final since 1986, when they took silver.

"We are not going out for revenge," Middleton told BBC Sport. "We just want to get to the final."

England finished fourth at the last World Cup and have only won a medal once in 11 attempts.

Their hopes of reaching the semi-finals were dented after a 5-0 thrashing by champions Australia but they beat Belgium 3-2 in their must-win final Group A match on Monday.

They will now play hosts Netherlands, who won Olympic silver in 2012 and took bronze at the last World Cup in 2010 in India.

"Against Belgium, we played to our potential, put ourselves out there and took the fight to them," added Middleton, England's most-capped player.

"We need to do that against the Dutch. You don't get many chances to be in a World Cup or Olympic semi-final, so you need to leave without any regrets. If we get chances, we have to take it to them."
