Ireland captain Katie Mullan was sold to Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers in the first Women's Hockey India League auction.

The 30-year-old forward will be joined at the club by fellow Irish international Roisin Upton, but Sarah Hawkshaw and Elena Neill will not be participating despite having been named in the draft on Tuesday.

Mullan, who captained the Irish hockey team to a surprise World Cup silver medal in 2018, has previously represented Ballymoney at club level.

She has also won an All-Ireland Camogie title with her club Eoghan Rua.

This is the first time that Hockey India League will involve women's sides.

The four teams: Delhi SG Pipers, Soorma, Odisha Warriors and the Tigers will take part in a tournament from 28 December to 1 February 2025.

In the men's auction, Ireland goalkeeper David Harte was picked up by Tamil Nadu Dragons. The first season of the men's competition took place in 2013.
