Chris Higgins agrees to stay with Belfast Giants

Chris Higgins will enter his third season as a Giants player

Forward Chris Higgins has signed on for another season with the Belfast Giants.

The 30-year-old Boston University graduate rejoined the Giants in 2015 after a spell with the Nottingham Panthers.

Higgins originally joined the Belfast club in 2013 and helped them win the Elite League in his first season, posting 61 points in 55 games.

The Giants will play two exhibition games with German side, the Fischtown Pinguins, on 20 and 21 August.

Belfast finished fourth in last season's Elite League, under new player-coach Derrick Walser.

He believes Higgins is a valuable asset to the Giants offence.

"Chris Higgins and his line did a lot of damage against other teams last season," said Walser.

"Chris is a player who will produce offence and make players around him better. It was an easy decision for me to bring him back this season."

After the exhibition games against the Pinguins, the Giants start their Elite League campaign at home to the Braehead Clan on 27 August.
