The Belfast Giants have announced the signing of Michael Quesnele for the forthcoming Elite League campaign.

Quesnele, originally from Canada, holds Italian citizenship, which enables the 27-year-old to take the Giants final EU roster position.

The defenceman spent the 2015-16 season with Coventry Blaze, where he posted nine goals and 16 assists.

Quesnele will arrive in Belfast on Tuesday and will make his Giants debut on Saturday against the Fife Flyers.

During his one season stint at Coventry Blaze, Quesnele helped the English side reach the 2016 Play-off Grand Final, in which the Blaze lost to the Nottingham Panthers.

Quesnele played for Lakehead University since 2010-11 season, before his year with the Blaze, earning two All-Star Awards and posting 27 goals and 68 assists.

Steve Thornton, who is Head of Hockey Operations for the Belfast side, believes Quesnele will be a valuable addition to the Giants' roster.

"He skates well, competes hard and has offensive upside. We feel that he is a proven commodity in this league and we expect him to slot in nicely."
