Sheffield Steelers seized their late chance to beat Cardiff Devils

Cardiff Devils succumbed to defeat in overtime as their Elite League campaign got underway at Sheffield Steelers.

The visitors were 4-3 ahead in the third period, but John Armstrong's equaliser was followed by former Devil Evan Mosey's overtime winner.

Brodie Reid had scored a Devils hat-trick with Stephen Dixon also hitting the target.

It was a disappointing end to a Devils' weekend that began with a 3-2 Challenge Cup win over Guildford Flames.

Ian Watters gave Flames the lead, but goals from Mark Richardson and Brandon McNally put Devils in front in Saturday's game.

Chris Gerrie levelled for the visitors in the third period with Reid securing victory in overtime.

Devils face a rematch at Guildford in the Challenge Cup on Saturday, 2 October before hosting Fife Flyers in the league a day later.
