Elite League title challengers Cardiff Devils suffered a shock defeat at bottom club Fife Flyers on Sunday.

The loss came after putting their Challenge Cup disappointment behind them on Saturday with a 5-4 home league victory over Dundee Stars.

Flyers' Max Humitz opened for the hosts with Casey Gilling adding their second.

Ben Davies hit back in the second period, but Colin Shirley and Kyle Osterberg ensured Flyers' triumph.

The previous day Devils had to withstand a late comeback having built up a 5-1 cushion in the Welsh capital.

James Phelan had put Stars in front, before Josh Waller, Justin Crandall, Cole Sanford and Brandon Alderson were on target for Devils.

River Rymsha extended the lead before Stars hit back with late goals from Drydn Dow, Kyle Pouncy and Spencer Naas.

Devils were dumped out of the Challenge Cup in a 3-1 defeat by Glasgow Clan last Wednesday.

The Welsh team will be aiming for a measure of revenge against Clan in the Elite League Cardiff on Friday, 22 December (19:30 GMT).
