Cardiff Devils let slip a two-goal advantage away to Manchester Storm before losing 5-4 in overtime at Altrincham Ice Arena in Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

Devils took the lead after little more than two minutes, Kristoff Kontos tapping in a rebound, with Gleason Fournier doubling the lead before Storm's Bradley Jenion made it 2-1 at the first interval.

Cardiff led 3-1 early in the second period through Fournier's second of the night, but - not for the first time this season - a series of bad penalties allowed Manchester to tie the game with two powerplay goals from Nick Welsh.

The visitors again took an early lead in the third with Kohen Olischefski tipping past home netminder Evan Weninger, only for Ben Bowns to fall in the Devils net allowing Kyle Locke to send the game into overtime.

It took just 29 seconds for Manchester to claim the extra point, Brandon Cutler securing a victory which puts fourth-placed Storm two points behind third-placed Cardiff.

The Devils return to Vindico Arena on Sunday for a home game against Fife Flyers which will see 39-year-old Cardiff defenceman Mark Richardson set a new record of 1,178 EIHL games.
