Summary

  • Belfast Giants 9-1 Fife Flyers (Result)

  1. Giants set up opportunity to win titlepublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

    Belfast Giants 9-1 Fife Flyers

It’s all over and the Belfast Giants could win the title tomorrow with a win over Manchester and a defeat by Sheffield either tonight, although they lead Dundee 2-1, or tomorrow against Fife.

It may not happen tomorrow, but two wins out of three regardless of what Sheffield do or Nottingham who are mathematically still in the race, will be enough.

We’ll be back tomorrow from 3.45pm for the game between the Giants and Manchester Storm

  2. GOAL! Carpenter with the hat-trick for Giantspublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

    Belfast Giants 9-1 Fife Flyers

Bobo Carpenter gets his hat-trick goal with 2:52 remaining.

Meanwhile Sheffield have taken a 2-1 lead over Dundee

  3. Third period underwaypublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

    Belfast Giants 8-1 Fife Flyers

To be honest I’m paying more attention to what is going on in Sheffield where the final period against Dundee will be underway shortly.

Could the Giants be playing for the championship tomorrow?

We’re back underway here in Belfast….

  4. Giants closing in on another big victorypublished at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

    Belfast Giants 8-1 Fife Flyers

    Giants are going to win.

Nottingham have been beaten by Guildford.

Attention turns to Sheffield where it’s 1-1 against Dundee after two periods.

The Nottingham loss opems up the possibility that the Giants could win the Elite League title on Sunday with a win over Manchester.

For that to happen Sheffield need to lose a game - so if that’s tonight against Dundee then victory over the Storm tomorrow will win the league for the Giants.

However the Steelers will travel to Fife tomorrow as well, so a loss there would hand the title to the Giants if they beat the Storm.

  5. GOAL! Conway scores on the powerplay for Giantspublished at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

  10. Giants in control after first periodpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

    Belfast Giants 4-1 Fife Flyers

I’ve seen some weird and wonderful moments in sport down though the years but a Fife comeback to win this game would be up there with the most stunning.

Giants in total control and on their way to a big win.

After two periods the Panthers trail Guildford 2-0 while Sheffield lead Dundee 1-0 in the first period.

Giants turn the puck over at centre ice and Charles-Antoine Paiement skates in all alone and beats Tom McCollum on the backhand.

The goal stands after a long review on a Mike Lee shot moments earlier that the Giants thought was in but replay shows it hit the crossbar.

  17. Giants continue title quest against Fife Flyerspublished at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 March

Belfast Giants v Fife Flyers (19:00)

It’s the penultimate weekend of the Elite League regular season and there are three sides chasing the title.

Right now it’s in the hands of the Belfast Giants. With four games remaining they need to win three, starting with today’s game against Fife.

With Manchester visiting tomorrow and Nottingham next Saturday, the Giants can win the title at home.

Any slip-ups allow Nottingham and Sheffield into the mix.

The Panthers are two points behind but having played a game more.

The Steelers are three points adrift and need a Giants loss to have a chance.

The Panthers are in Guildford tonight while Sheffield hosts Dundee.

The Giants beat the Flyers 10-4 here in Belfast on Wednesday night and another two points tonight brings that title one step closer.
