Summary

  • Belfast Giants v Guildford Flames (19:00)

  1. Giants extinguish the Flamespublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November

    Belfast Giants 2-0 Guildford Flames

Entertaining game and a lot to pick over.

Giants netminder Tom McCollum was outstanding but so was the Giants team defence and that will please coach Adam Keefe.

Flames coach Paul Dixon will wonder how his side didn't get more from the game especially after such a strong second period but they failed to cash in on their powerplay chances.

The major penalty for spearing was a turning point and allowed the Giants a long powerplay from which Scott Conway scored.

And then there was the bizarre incident of the Flames player not being allowed out of the penalty box for a number of seconds as his side went on the powerplay.

The Flames bench was angry and rightly so.

Big win for the Giants who travel to Nottingham tomorrow while Guildford head home to face Glasgow.

Only 48 seconds remained on the major penalty as Guildford were doing a great penalty killing job.

Then as if to rub salt into the wounds, the player who drew the penalty, Scott Conway, scores on a rebound.

Flames, however going to have the man advantage shortly.

A team’s best penalty killer is your goalie - Giants Tom McCollum a string of great saves.

  9. Puck dropped on second periodpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November

    Belfast Giants 1-0 Guildford Flames

Couple of the league’s best goalie showed their skills in the first period.

Tom McCollum and Eamon McAdam made a lot of good stops although McAdam will curse his luck on the rebound he gave up right to Bobo Carpenter.

Some good battles on the ice.

    Second period underway….

  10. Giants lead at the end of first periodpublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November

    Belfast Giants 1-0 Guildford Flames

Bobo Carpenter could have had a first period hat-trick.

He scored the goal, then slipped the puck past the post when the Giants were on a powerplay and in the last minute of the period forced Eamon McAdam into a really good save.

Not that the Flames haven’t had chances, they have but Tom McCollum looking sharp for the home side.

    Good game, two good teams…

    Belfast Giants 0-0 Guildford Flames

Not a lot of stoppages in a game of good tempo.

Flames goalie Eamon McAdam fought off a heavy shot from Kyle Osterberg maybe the pick of the chances so far.

Just past the halfway point of the first period
