The Giants never touched the puck in the 51 seconds played in overtime before Lucas Childs scored the game winner for Fife.

All the credit goes to the visitors for never giving up in a game they had nothing to play for in.

Coming back from a goal down three times and then scoring the winner in overtime.

The Giants, well, they will be top seeds for the Challenge Cup semi-finals and will get to choose who they will face in the final four.

Should they reach the final they’ll also get to host it so that could be significant later in the season.

So now they’ll turn their attention to the league and a match-up with Glasgow on Sunday - 4pm face-off - we’ll be back for that.

Belfast Giants v Fife Flyers, 19:00 GMT

Top seeding for the knock-out stages of the Challenge Cup will be decided on tonight with two games bringing things to a close for Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers.

The Giants, who host Fife Flyers here at the SSE Arena in Belfast, need a point to ensure they reach the Semi-Finals as top seeds and their their pick of opponents.

It will also set them in good stead to host the final were they to make it that far.

Fife are already out of the competition and complete their Cup campaign in today's game.

Things are a little less straightforward in Sheffield. The Steelers host the Blaze knowing they'll need a win to take advantage of any slip-ups across the Irish Sea.

However, they welcome a Coventry Blaze side to the Utilita Arena that still has a shot at coming second in Group A, or at least making the Elimination Game.

It’s a big night ahead with plenty on the line.
