Murray came through his opening match against Argentinian qualifier Facundo Arguello in straight sets and faces Portugal's Joao Sousa on Thursday - which you can hear live on 5 live sports extra - for a place in round three.

Fifa - a round-up of the day's events

We're aware there is a lot of information flying about and it's hard to make sense of a lot of it, so here is a round-up of what has happened today and where we are at now.

• Seven Fifa officials have been arrested on charges they received more than $150m (£100m) in bribes.

• Among those arrested is Fifa vice-president Jeffrey Webb.

• A separate criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated has also begun. But Fifa has already ruled out a revote, insisting Russia and Qatar will remain the hosts.

• Sepp Blatter, seeking a fifth term as Fifa president, insists Friday's presidential election against opponent Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, will go ahead.

Should the 2018 and 2022 World Cup votes be re-examined? "There are now major investigations not just concerning Fifa and corruption but also the two bids, World Cups 2018 and 2022 so a lot will depend on how rotten it was and how corrupt the voting process was.

"If it's substantial enough then I think they'll have no option but to rethink and revote but I don't know. It's a mess, it's a huge mess but it's something that need to happen and the sooner the better."

Italian Lampre rider Sacha Modolo won his second stage of the Giro d'Italia, the 17th stage from Tirano to Lugano in Switzerland, with Spaniard Alberto Contador comfortably retaining the leader's pink jersey.

England hopeful Adil Rashid scored 99 as Yorkshire drew with Somerset in their County Championship Division One match at Taunton.

Yorkshire, the defending champions, began the final day 124 runs ahead with five second-innings wickets in hand.

Rashid added 117 for the sixth wicket with Jonny Bairstow (66) and a further 89 with Tim Bresnan.

Some useful lower-order runs took the visitors to 419 all out, setting Somerset a notional 373 to win. The hosts reached 6-1 before agreeing a draw.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino brought several fringe players on for the second half of his team's 2-1 win over a Malaysian XI on their summer tour, in which Harry Kane scored both his team's goals before the break.

Grant Ward and Kyle Walker-Peters played in Kuala Lumpur as Spurs won the AIA Cup and Pochettino said: "It's a wonderful opportunity for the young lads to play and train with the first team. They're the future of the club."

The most recent goal on this list came in one of the great FA Cup finals.

With the Hammers winning 3-2 entering injury time, a header clear dropped to Gerrard who, despite hobbling with cramp, thumped a first-time shot from 35 yards past Shaka Hislop into the bottom corner.

The Reds won on penalties, with Gerrard successfully converting his spot-kick.

West Ham goalkeeper Hislop recalled: "You don't expect him to hit it from that distance if he is carrying an injury. But he hit it first time and I don't think he could have hit it any better.

"He absolutely smashed this half-volley. I saw him coming onto it but there were a lot of players between him and me and he hit it so well it was in the back of the net almost before I could react.

"I have watched the FA Cup since I was a little boy and I can't think of a goal that was better than that or one that was more meaningful."

Stoke City have signed goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard from Danish champions FC Midtjylland for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has agreed a three-year contract, starting on 1 July, and he will replace compatriot Thomas Sorensen at the Britannia Stadium.

"I follow the Premier League a lot, so I know of Stoke City, and I know that the club has made tremendous progress over the last couple of years," Haugaard told the club website.

Cherries sign Reading goalkeeper

AFC Bournemouth have signed Australia goalkeeper Adam Federici from Reading on a three-year deal.

The 30-year-old made 245 appearances for the Royals and was part of Australia's 2010 World Cup squad.

"I had a lot of success at Reading and the fans were great for me, but I thought it was time I moved on," he told the Bournemouth website.

After all that drama from New York let's have a picture of Ray Parlour. We still have half an hour to go in our best FA Cup final goal vote and Ray is our penultimate contender.

The England midfielder had not scored in the Premier League all season so Chelsea could have been excused for not worrying too much about his run forward.

Sylvain Wiltord played the ball to Parlour 45 yards out and as he ran towards goal, the Blues defence backed off, only to see the 'Romford Pele' curl home past Carlo Cudicini from 25 yards.

Ljungberg then scored in his second final in a row as the Gunners won 2-0 to secure the Double.

This winning goal was half of a memorable brace from Owen in the first FA Cup final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium as Wembley was being rebuilt.

The Gunners led 1-0 through Freddie Ljungberg but 21-year-old England striker Owen equalised with seven minutes left with an acrobatic finish.

And in the 88th minute he entered FA Cup folklore as he chased a Patrik Berger long ball, beat Lee Dixon and Tony Adams and fired a left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

Joe Schmidt has denied Ireland's bosses had any involvement in the sacking of Leinster coach Matt O'Connor.

O'Connor left Leinster last week after a disappointing campaign - and the departure of the outspoken Australian coach's sparked suggestions Ireland head coach Schmidt had a hand in his exit, owing to rows earlier in the season about player availability.

However, Schmidt said: "I was as surprised as anyone (about his sacking). It's not the IRFU's decision: it's purely a Leinster game board decision.

"That's the autonomy they have, and that's the decision they made, so it's totally independent of the IRFU."

Surrey edge to narrow win over Kent

Jason Roy's unbeaten 60 helped Surrey to a three-wicket victory over Kent at Beckenham, lifting them up to second in Division Two of the County Championship.

Resuming on 44-1 and chasing 195 for victory, Surrey lost wickets at regular intervals in the morning session, but Roy's 41-ball fifty saw Surrey home.

"You expect to find a skeleton in the closet, but at Fifa's house they are hanging like candelabra all over the place.

"Everywhere you look scandals will be found because Blatter has presided over a monstrous and scandalous regime that must surely come to an end.

"How Fifa can have the gall to say that this will be good for them is beyond me. And to say this election can go on Friday takes absurdity to unrivalled lengths."

Middlesbrough kicked off but Italy international Di Matteo picked up the ball in his own half 35 seconds into the game. Seven seconds later it was in the back of the net via a 30-yard strike which flew in off the crossbar.

Chelsea went on to win 2-0 for their first major trophy in 27 years. Louis Saha scored an even quicker goal for Everton against the Stamford Bridge club in 2009.

Tottenham's Paul Gascoigne brought down Gary Charles, causing damage to his own knee ligaments that would keep him out of the game for almost a year.

Left-back Pearce stepped up to thunder a left-foot rocket past Erik Thorstvedt into the top corner, but Spurs went on to win 2-1 with Des Walker scoring an extra-time own goal.

Sutton, 34, was found guilty at a World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) hearing in April, but it was ruled he had probably been coerced by others.

Former Australia fast bowler Geoff Lawson tells the BBC that Trevor Bayliss initially said no to coaching England. Lawson is a good friend of Bayliss and was instrumental in appointing him coach of New South Wales.

Here is a profile of Eduardo Li, who is one of seven people who has been arrested in Zurich this morning.

The 56-year-old was a co-owner of a Costa Rican club team before resigning to take over as president of the Costa Rican football federation in 2007.

The Costa Rican FA is part of the confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf).

Li is a member of the Fifa players' status committee and a special adviser on world football governing body's organising committee for the Fifa Under-17 Women's World Cup.

Today has been a bit of blur, with news and snippets about the arrests of seven Fifa officials on suspicion of corruption coming in left, right and centre.

So, to help you make sense of it all (because we're nice like that) here is, in a nutshell, what's happened:

• US department of Justice says 14 defendants have been charged with "racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies" over a 24-year period.

• "The indictment alleges corruption that is rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted both abroad and here in the United States," says US attorney general Loretta Lynch.

• Fifa insists Friday's presidential election will go ahead as planned.

Here is a profile of Jose Maria Marin, who is one of six people who has been arrested in Zurich this morning.

The 83-year-old stepped up to become president of the Brazilian Football Federation in March 2012 when he replaced Ricardo Teixeira.

Teixeira was one of three senior Fifa officials accused by the BBC's Panorama programme in November 2010 of taking bribes in the 1990s from the now defunct sports rights agency ISL.

Marin was replaced by Marco Polo Del Nero in April 2015, although he remains a vice-president of the Brazilian FA.

He is also a special adviser on three Fifa committees, including those behind organising the World Cup and Confederations Cup. Marin is also a member on two other committees within world football's governing body.

The Fifa news conference taking place in Zurich after today's arrests of six Fifa officials - including vice-president Jeffrey Webb - has been delayed.

It was due to start at 10:00 BST, but has been put back by 15 minutes.

Fifa's director of communications and public affairs Walter DeGregorio is expected to be the man facing the media.

He was vice-president of South American football confederation CONMEBOL for 20 years before taking over as president in April 2013 following the resignation of Nicolas Leoz, who was accused by the BBC's Panorama programme in November 2010 of taking bribes in the 1990s from the now defunct sports rights agency ISL.

Welbeck to miss Cup final & England squad

Arsene Wenger confirms that Danny Welbeck will miss Saturday's FA Cup final and is also out of the England squad for the friendly Republic of Ireland on 7 June and Euro 2016 qualifier in Slovenia a week later, because of his knee injury.

"I was confident that he would be available but his bone bruising was not healed," Wenger says.

"It would seem as though Sepp Blatter is pushing to have the election put back, perhaps we will know more about that once we hear more from Fifa in the next hour but this is a significant development.

"Sepp Blatter was a firm favourite but this could be a complete game changer. What Blatter has always used in his defence is that he doesn't appoint these people but ultimately many people will say this comes back to the head of the organisation and there will be many questions for him."

"From reports emanating from the US late last year, what is understood is that a man by the name of Chuck Blazer, who was a very powerful Fifa official for a number of years, was turned into a co-operating witness for the FBI.

"That obviously attracted the attention of law enforcement. They, according to reports, gave him a wiretap and that was used at a series of meetings in London in summer 2012 in which conversations took place with a number of leading officials. Those conversations are said to have spurred on this investigation and today I think we are starting to see the results, perhaps, of those conversations - that wiretap evidence. This investigation has been ongoing in the US."

Swiss authorities began their operation to arrest the Fifa officials at the five-star Baur au Lac hotel, pending extradition to the US, early on Wednesday.

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) said those held were being investigated "on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kick-backs between the early 1990s and the present day", totalling "more than $100m".

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke briefly visited the hotel on Wednesday morning but declined to comment.

A Fifa spokesperson said: "We have seen the media reports and and are seeking clarity in this matter. We will make no further comment at this stage."

Fifa will hold a news conference at 10:00 BST.

Here is a profile of Jeffrey Webb, who is one of six people who has been arrested in Zurich this morning.

The 50-year-old is president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf).

He was elected to the post in May 2012 and became the fourth president of the confederation and the youngest leader of any regional association within Fifa to reach the position.

Webb, from the Cayman Isalnds, is also a vice-president who sits on nine committees within world football's governing body, including Fifa's World Cup organising, finance and emergency committees.

On his profile on the Concacaf website, it states: "Webb stands as a global visionary whose commitment to development and reform is strongly impacting the world of football not only at the regional level but also internationally."

Top seed Serena Williams made swift progress into round two but last year's semi-finalist Eugenie Bouchard was beaten.

A reminder that Fifa president Sepp Blatter, who is seeking a fifth term in charge of the organisation when he stands for re-election on Friday, is not one of those arrested in the dawn raids at a Zurich hotel ahead of Friday's presidential election.

The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) have also released details about the questioning of the six arrested.

"The Zurich Police will question the detainees today on behalf of the FOJ regarding the US request for their arrest.

"A simplified procedure will apply for wanted persons who agree to their immediate extradition.

"The FOJ can immediately approve their extradition to the US and order its execution.

"However, if a wanted person opposes their extradition, the FOJ will invite the US to submit a formal extradition request within the deadline of 40 days specified in the bilateral extradition treaty."

"The FOJ's arrest warrants were issued further to a request by the US authorities.

"The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating these individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kick-backs between the early 1990s and the present day.

"The bribery suspects - representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms - are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer functionaries - delegates of FIFA and other functionaries of FIFA sub-organizations - totalling more than $100 million (approx. £650m).

"In return, it is believed that they received media, marketing, and sponsorship rights in connection with soccer tournaments in Latin America. According to the US request, these crimes were agreed and prepared in the US, and payments were carried out via US banks."

2008-09: After Howe is appointed on 31 December, Bournemouth avoid relegation and finish 21st in League Two, despite a 17-point deduction.

The Bournemouth boss has been named the League Managers' Association manager of the year and becomes only the second manager from outside the top flight to win the award since 1992 - emulating then-Reading boss Steve Coppell in 2006.

"I can't believe it, I'm so surprised," said Howe who was honoured after leading the Cherries to the top flight for the first time in their history.

"BBC Sport also witnessed Jose Maria Marin being led away by two policemen. The officers took the ashen-faced Brazilian deputy FA chief out of a side entrance of the Baur au Lac hotel. Marin is a member of Fifa's club committee.

"The officers were carrying his black suitcase and some of his possessions in plastic bags.

"It's understood that a high level meeting of Fifa officials is now under way at their headquarters."
