  5. Women's World Cup

    Norway v England (22:00 BST)

In Norway, England face a team ranked 11th, six places below them, but who drew 1-1 with two time-champions Germany in the group stages.

    s

England were beaten 3-0 by the world's number one team at Wembley last November.

Sampson's team also drew 1-1 in a friendly with Norway in January 2014, which was his first game in charge. "It feels about 35 years ago," the England boss joked.

Norway's veteran coach Even Pellerud, 61, guided the team to their sole World Cup triumph in 1995. And they are unbeaten so far in this World Cup, having enjoyed comfortable wins over debutants Thailand and Ivory Coast.

  6. Women's World Cup

    Norway v England (22:00 BST)

England boss Mark Sampson said he will strike a careful balance between attack and defence against Norway in their last 16 game, having seen his team produce their most fluid performance in their last group game against Colombia.

    g

"Norway are really well organised, fit, strong, determined, and if they can't find a way on the floor they'll put the ball in the air," Sampson said.

"We'll have to manage that threat, but we've got good experience. [Centre-backs] Steph Houghton, Laura Bassett and Casey Stoney have probably headed more balls in the last two games than they have all season."

  7. Women's World Cup

    Tennis

    Harriet Dart

British teenager Harriet Dart has been beaten in the first round of the Aegon International in Eastbourne by the 2014 Australian Open finalist, Dominika Cibulkova 6-1 6-3.

Cibulkova, the world number 49, is playing in her first tournament since February having had surgery on her achilles.

Dart, 18, was given a wildcard into the main draw at Eastbourne and has received a wildcard in to the qualifying draw for Wimbledon.

  10. Women's World Cup

    Norway v England (22:00 BST)

England go into their last-16 tie in Ottawa on Monday evening at the Women's World Cup having qualified second behind France in Group F.

After losing to the side ranked third in the world, England recovered with consecutive 2-1 victories over Mexico and Colombia.

    g

The Welshman, who has used all 20 outfield players so far, introduced Jodie Taylor for the final nine minutes against Colombia after she had knee surgery eight weeks ago.

However, Taylor and Jordan Nobbs, who also featured against Colombia after returning from a hamstring problem, both missed England's final training session on Sunday.

    Hibs mascot Sunshine

The new Partick Thistle mascot Kingsley has certainly been attracting a lot of attention since his launch - and not all of it good.

  13. Marsh vows Australia will be 'aggressive'

    Cricket

    Michael Clarke and Jimmy Anderson

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh says his side will play with aggression in the forthcoming Ashes Series but insists they will not overstep the mark.

The last Ashes series in the winter of 2013/14 had a number of flashpoints with Michael Clarke charged by the International Cricket Council for swearing at England bowler Jimmy Anderson.

"I think it is really important to get out there and show your aggression and put your stamp on the game - that is the Australian way," said Marsh.

"It is an Ashes series and I am sure there will be sledging from both teams, but I am also sure it will be in the spirit of the game. We're looking forward to getting out there and putting it right up to them."

  14. Hafeez facing second ban

    Cricket

Pakistan off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez has been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action for the second time in less than a year and could face a 12-month ban from the sport.

    g

The International Cricket Council said in a statement that match officials in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle raised concerns about Hafeez's action in a report handed to Pakistan's team management.

Hafeez was banned from bowling in December after tests showed he was extending his elbow more than the permitted limit. He was cleared to bowl in April after remedial work.

The ICC said in its statement that Hafeez will need to undergo another test and if his bowling action is proven to be illegal again, he will be given a year-long ban from bowling.

  15. Aluko's view from inside the camp

    Football

Eniola Aluko goes for goal against Mexico

In between preparing for Monday's Women's World Cup last 16 tie against Norway which kicks off at 22:00 BST, England forward Eniola Aluko is writing a regular column for the BBC Sport website.

In her latest instalment she reflects on a case of mistaken identity and penalty strategies.

  16. Strettle pulls out of England squad

    Rugby Union

David Strettle goes over for a try

Winger David Strettle has withdrawn from England's World Cup training squad and will be replaced by Bath Rugby's Semesa Rokoduguni.

The 31-year-old, who won the Premiership title with Saracens last month, will join French club Clermont Auvergne next season and decided to pull out of the squad before they assembled ahead of the World Cup.

  17. Benitez promises more signings for Real

    Football

    Rafa Benitez

New Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez has said Real Madrid will be bringing in more reinforcements this summer, but has not divulged who they might be or which players might be on their way out.

"Of course there will be," Benitez told his club's official website, when asked about new arrivals.

"But let me just say that to improve the current Real Madrid side is enormously difficult.

"This team has won it all and has proved the level it has. The fans can be certain that the team will have the level of competitiveness that this club demands."

  18. Man Utd keen on Ramos & Schweinsteiger

    Football

    Fabinho

Here's today's final question for football writer Simon Stone about Manchester United's potential transfer moves this summer.

@IVNTalks: Who are United interested in for the right-back slot? Some Fabinho reports from France. And Firmino a target ?

"Not sure Firmino is on the radar," Simon says. "Am pretty sure United could get Fabinho from Monaco if they wanted him but that might not become completely apparent until after Copa America, by which time alternative targets might emerge.

"The other thing nobody is mentioning is who makes way. United already have two right-backs in Antonio Valencia and Rafael. Of those, Rafael is the most vulnerable. Van Gaal may want to create some room before risking having a squad that is far too big."

  19. Stone inspires Northants victory

    Northants 246 & 46-2 beat Kent 140 & 151 by eight wickets

Pace bowler Ollie Stone produced a career-best 5-44 as Northants beat Kent to register their second Championship win of the summer in Division Two.

The 21-year-old was well supported by Rory Kleinveldt, whose 3-44 gave him match figures of 8-85.

Kent's second innings only lasted 38.5 overs and Northants knocked off the 46 needed for victory for the loss of Rob Newton and Ben Duckett.

  20. Canaries confirm Mulumbu deal

    Football

    Youssouf Mulumbu

Premier League newcomers Norwich City have agreed to sign DR Congo midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old's move to Carrow Road will go through on 1 July when his current deal with West Brom expires.

"The fact that we've been able to pick Youssouf up on a free transfer is a fantastic piece of business," boss Alex Neil told the Norwich website.

  21. Bedene wins at Nottingham

    Tennis

    Aljaz Bedene

There has been mixed news for the Britons at the Aegon Open in Nottingham.

British number two Aljaz Bedene has reached the second round after defeating Argentina's Diego Schwatzman 6-1 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.

Next up for the 25-year-old Slovenian-born player, who was granted UK citizenship in March, is eighth-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

But British number three Kyle Edmund is out after losing to Malek Jaziri 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5).

  22. Gloucestershire made to follow-on at Bristol

    Essex 319, Gloucestershire 116 & 38-2

BBC Essex's Paul Newton at Bristol:

"Graham Napier wrapped up the Gloucestershire tail taking four of the last five wickets, including the last three, all bowled, in the space of five deliveries.

"Youngster Jamie Porter underlined his huge potential, his three wickets barely describing how well he bowled.

"Following on, Napier soon dismissed Chris Dent and Porter promptly removed Will Tavare.

"Gloucestershire face a considerable task to avoid a heavy defeat, still 165 behind."

  23. Women's World Cup

    Norway v England (22:00 BST)

England are left devastated after their loss to France

Four years ago in the World Cup in Germany, France beat England on penalties in their quarter-final having drawn 1-1 after extra-time.

Boss Mark Sampson says he knows who would be taking penalties should tonight's game with Norway go that far.

"I've been very successful over the course of my career with penalties as a coach," he said.

"We've assessed their techniques, their character and their personalities. I will take responsibility deciding which players take them and they will have my full backing to go and do their best."

  24. Premier new boys sign Distin

    Football

Newly-promoted Bournemouth have agreed a deal in principle to sign defender Sylvain Distin.

    g

The 37-year-old left Everton when his contract expired at the end of the season.

Distin is still to have a medical but it is not anticipated there will be any barrier to the deal going through.

If he does sign, Bournemouth will become Distin's fifth Premier League club after previous spells with Newcastle, Manchester City, Portsmouth - where he won the FA Cup in 2008 - and Everton.

  25. Glamorgan's Wagg continues to shine with bat

    Glamorgan 242-9 v Leicestershire

BBC Radio Wales Sport's Nick Webb at Cardiff:

"Leicestershire's bowlers took wickets at regular intervals through the afternoon session as Chris Cooke led the Glamorgan resistance with a valuable 84.

"All four Foxes seamers claimed successes as Glamorgan failed to put together any partnerships of substance, Clint McKay getting his third scalp of the day.

"But Graham Wagg steered Glamorgan to a batting point and smashed four sixes in his half-century as he and last man Andy Carter added an unbeaten 42 before a much-delayed tea."

  26. Man Utd keen on Ramos & Schweinsteiger

    Football

On the back of news that Manchester United are interested in Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and Bastian Schweinsteiger of Bayern Munich, our social media colleagues have been asking for your questions to put to football writer Simon Stone...

Tevon @TevonMUFC: What's the latest on the deals for Otamendi, Benzema, Lloris and Van der Wiel?

"I don't think Benzema will happen, otherwise he would be the one United would be pushing for now," Simon says.

    Hugo Lloris

"The issue with Lloris is the four years remaining on his contract and having to deal with Tottenham and Daniel Levy. United have never found that particularly easy.

"There is obviously a Dutch connection with Van der Wiel. And he is a right-back. But it would be a little bit odd if Van Gaal signed someone he did not consider to be good enough for even his expanded 30-man squad ahead of last summer's World Cup.

"That leaves Otamendi. Again, there is interest. But I suspect nothing may happen there until the Ramos issue is resolved, one way or another."

  27. Hants on back foot against Somerset

    Somerset 346, Hampshire 66-6

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James at the Ageas Bowl:

"Ten wickets fell for 102 runs after the start was delayed until 13:45 BST.

"After Somerset were bowled out, with Gareth Berg taking 4-64, Hampshire made a poor start to their reply and trailed by 280 at tea.

"The wicket has given the seam bowlers some help even though the sun has been out for most of the afternoon and Alfonso Thomas (3-15) has moved the ball both ways."

  28. Colchester sign defender Briggs

    Football

League One side Colchester United have signed former loanee Matthew Briggs following his release by Millwall.

The 24-year-old former Fulham left-back played 18 times for the U's last season as they avoided relegation to League Two with a final-day win over Preston.

  29. McDonnell to miss rest of season

    Rugby League

Shannon McDonnell (right) celebrates scoring against Wigan

St Helens full-back Shannon McDonnell will miss the rest of the season after snapping his Achilles tendon.

The 27-year-old, who rejoined Saints in April after a brief spell with the club last season, suffered the injury late in their Super League loss at Castleford last Thursday.

He will now have surgery and faces between four and seven months of rehabilitation.

But winger Adam Swift has been given the all-clear after being carried off on a stretcher in the same game with what looked like a serious injury.

  30. Philosophy football

    Football

Anyone know what a head of football philosophy is?

Well Brentford now have one after the appointment of Flemming Pedersen.

The 52-year-old "will work as part of the first team coaching staff" and will be "responsible for setting out Brentford's football philosophy and structuring individual development plans for players".

  31. New owners at Hartlepool

    Football

Hartlepool have confirmed recruitment company JPNG Global has completed its takeover of the club.

Previous majority shareholders Increased Oil Recovery, who took control in 1997, announced on Friday that it had sold Hartlepool and chairman Ken Hodcroft had stepped down with immediate effect.

Gary Coxall has been named as the new chairman. "It's a deal that we have been working on for the past three months," he said. "We're really pleased that it is completed and we can start to implement our plans."

Manager Ronnie Moore, appointed in December, led Hartlepool to an unlikely relegation escape in May after they turned around a 10-point gap to preserve their Football League status.

During that time he won 555 matches consecutively, the longest winning streak by any athlete in top-level professional sports.

  34. Slow going for Worcestershire

    Middlesex 309, Worcestershire 48-1

BBC London 94.9's Kevin Hand at Uxbridge:

"Worcestershire made short work of Middlesex's tail after a delayed start at 13:10 BST, which followed the loss of the morning session to rain.

"The hosts soon lost their final three first-innings wickets, but it has been slow going though in Worcestershire's reply.

"They have batted through 26 overs and the scoring rate would have been even slower if eight runs had not come from the last before tea.

"The Uxbridge track is slow and low as usual, which will only reward patience from the batsman."

    Sergio Ramos and Bastian Schweinsteiger

Djpd25 @DJ0725: Is there real possibility?

"Possibility yes. Probability is not so certain," Simon says. "Beyond question is that United are looking for players who play in the positions Ramos and Schweinsteiger are most effective in. Money in itself won't be an issue. So what can stop it? The players, their clubs, structure of the contracts.

"United are linked with scores of players every summer. Most there is not a hope of them ending up at Old Trafford. With these two, there is."

  36. Austin no Saint

    Football

Southampton have no interest in signing Charlie Austin from QPR, according to the Press Association.

    g

The 25-year-old has been being strongly linked with a move to the St Mary's Stadium from Loftus Road after scoring 18 goals in the Premier League last season.

But PA says that contrary to reports, Saints have not made a bid for Austin and they do not have any interest in the striker whose form recently led to a first England call-up.

Ryan Jeffery @FSxClan: Are they just using us to get new contracts?

    Dani Alves

"There is always that possibility," Simon says. "I certainly got that impression with Dani Alves earlier in the summer and lo and behold, a new contract materialised within days of Barcelona beating Juventus in the Champions League final.

"I would say Ramos is the most likely of the two to remain where he is. However, if there is the unease with the player that has been reported, United will certainly use Real's desire to sign David de Gea as leverage. Then Ramos would have a decision to make."

    g

England have never made it past the quarter-finals but with the tournament now expanded to 24 teams, they face Norway in the last 16.

"Two of them fell in almost identical fashion as Jack Brooks trapped Samit Patel and Will Gidman lbw with fuller balls before Riki Wessels (33) fell to former Notts man Ryan Sidebottom.

    Ross Brawn

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has called for Formula One to turn to Ross Brawn in a bid to turn around its flailing fortunes.

F1 has been criticised for dull races, a lack of overtaking and an over-complicated rule book.

"It is the commercial rights holder and the governing body to decide what F1 should be and then put it on the table to the teams and say 'this is what we want the product to be, these are the rules, this is the entry form'," said Horner.

    John Kennedy

Celtic first-team coach John Kennedy said all the right things about his side's Champions League second qualifying round draw with Icelandic club Stjarnan.

"We are more aware of them because they played Motherwell [last season] but it has been a long time since then and things have changed. They're not sitting in as good a position in the league as they finished last season.

"It's one we have to be careful of and make sure we do our homework and go in as best prepared as we can possibly be and hopefully get a result. With the size of club we are we should be expected to beat them."

  68. Essex in control at Bristol

    Essex 319, Gloucestershire 61-5

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Bob Hunt at Bristol:

"A torrid morning for Gloucestershire. They had to endure different batting conditions to yesterday, and Essex took full advantage of them.

"James Porter bowled particularly well at the delayed start, having both Will Tavare and the dangerous Michael Klinger caught in the slips, while Chris Dent followed soon after to Jesse Ryder.

"It looked things had settled down somewhat, but Ravi Bopara came in with two further wickets just before lunch, and the home side are in a heap of trouble on 61 for 5, still 258 runs adrift."

  69. Fletcher leads Surrey revival

    Surrey 239, Derbyshire 141-5

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church at Derby:

"Another busy session with the ball as Luke Fletcher led the way with three wickets in the space of 12 deliveries for Surrey.

"Hamish Rutherford moved to fifty on his Derbyshire debut amongst the clatter, but departed for 59 just before lunch off the bowling of Tom Curran and the hosts still trail by 98 runs at the break."

  70. Notts make disappointing start

    Nottinghamshire 85-4 v Yorkshire

BBC Radio Nottingham's Chris Ellis at Headingley:

"It has been Yorkshire's morning after winning the toss and putting Nottinghamshire into bat in overcast conditions on a pitch with a hint of green.

"The visitors started slowly, but never looked in any real trouble until the loss of three wickets for 10 runs, including James Taylor for a golden duck.

"Former Notts man Ryan Sidebottom, in his first game back from a calf injury, picked up the wicket of Steven Mullaney for 28, and there is plenty of England talent on show, with Adam Lyth and Gary Ballance in Yorkshire's line-up and Stuart Broad set to come in at number eight for Notts."

"Kent then lost two quick wickets before the interval with both Daniel Bell-Drummond and Rob Key out lbw to Rory Kleinveldt and Azharullah respectively.

"That leaves the visitors in a spot of bother at 38-2, still trailing by 68 runs."

  73. Kvitova out of Eastbourne

  74. Foxes start well in Cardiff

    Glamorgan 98-4 v Leicestershire

BBC Radio Wales Sport's Nick Webb at the Swalec Stadium:

"Glamorgan were in early trouble after choosing to bat against Leicestershire as Australian Clint McKay claimed two early wickets and Will Bragg was run out for 17 by a Matt Boyce throw, and 23-3 became 57-4 when Jigar Naik had Ben Wright lbw with one that kept low.

"Chris Cooke and Craig Meschede began to open up just before lunch in an unbroken stand of 41, but Leicestershire's Mark Cosgrove, playing against his former club, was the happier of the captains at lunch."

  131. Clutching at straws

    Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton blamed losing the grand prix to team-mate Nico Rosberg on a technical problem with his car's start procedure.

    g

Hamilton started from pole but made a slow start and was passed on the run to the first corner by Rosberg, who dominated the rest of the race.

"I did everything I was supposed to do but the clutch keeps under-performing," Hamilton said.

He said it was "something we need to work on" after a run of poor starts.

  132. 'Scary'

    Formula 1

That crash between Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso was spectacular to say the least, with the latter's McLaren ending up on top of the Ferrari.

Alonso, who had slid along the top of the barrier before the cars came to a halt, described the incident as "scary".

  137. Anyone want this?

    Tennis

Murray celebrated at Queen's in a style that appears to be unique to tennis players - throwing his sweatband to the crowd.

    g

Why anyone would want something drenched in a grown man's sweat I'm not sure, but each to their own.

  138. No guarantees

    Tennis

Murray also won the Queen's title in 2009, 2011 and 2013 and will hope to repeat his effort of two years ago when he went on to make it a grass-court double at Wimbledon.

"It's great preparation obviously, but it has only happened six times where someone has won Queen's and gone on to win Wimbledon," Murray added.

"There are no guarantees that winning here gives you a Wimbledon title."

Oh, stop being such a party-pooper Andy...

  139. No stopping Murray

    Tennis

Andy Murray is all set for Wimbledon after joining the likes of John McEnroe and Boris Becker as a four-time Queen's Club champion.

The British number one played superbly to beat South African Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-4 in 64 minutes at the Aegon Championships in London.

    g

It was a busy day for Murray, the top seed, who had earlier finished a rain-delayed semi-final, beating Viktor Troicki 6-3 7-6 (7-4).

"I played better as the week went on and hopefully I can continue that into Wimbledon," the 28-year-old said.

  140. McIlroy falters

    Golf

How did world number one Rory McIlroy fare?

Well, he posted six birdies in his opening 13 holes, including an incredible 72-foot putt, and looked as though he was on course to threaten the leaders.

    g

But then a few dropped shots halted his progress and his 66 left him level par for the tournament, five shots behind Spieth.

"It just wasn't meant to be, I didn't play the last few holes well all week," he told BBC Sport.

"It's going to take a few days to get over it but when I look back on it I'll be happy about it - a few missed putts will have made the difference."

  141. Butterfingers

    Golf

Spieth clearly doesn't need to work on improving his golf game, but he does perhaps needs lessons in how to hold a trophy.

As he was examining the big silver, shiny thing he'd just won, this happened.

    g

Fortunately there was no damage done and he soon salvaged the situation.

    g

    Phew, could have been embarrassing.

  142. History-makers

    Golf

Spieth remains on course to become the first player to win all four majors in a calendar year, and also became the youngest player to win the US Open since Bobby Jones in 1923.

"It's cool to be able to have two legs of the grand slam now, and to conquer golf's hardest test - the US Open is conquering the hardest layout in all of golf," Spieth said.

    getty

"I didn't have my best stuff ball-striking at all and really grinded over those four or five-footers - that was the difference."

He is the fourth youngest player to win two majors and the sixth to win the Masters and US Open in the same year. Makes you sick really doesn't it...

  143. Splendid Spieth

    Golf

First to America, where Jordan Spieth - a man so young he'd struggle to buy alcohol at a supermarket without ID - is celebrating after winning the US Open after a thrilling climax at Chambers Bay.

The 21-year-old carded a one-under 69 to win his second major of 2015 by one shot on five under after Dustin Johnson three-putted the last from 12 feet.

South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen sank six birdies in his last seven holes as he hit 67 to tie Johnson for second.

What a nice boy Spieth is too, posing with his parents and brother in his moment of victory.
