Savelio signs St Helens deal

St Helens forward Andre Savelio, 20, has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the reigning Super League champions to the end of 2017.

Savelio has been with Saints since the age of 14 and has so far made 21 senior appearances.

"I've had to work hard this year because I missed pre-season in 2014 because I was unwell," he said.

"I had a lot of catching up to do but I'm happy with how it has gone so far and I am grateful that Keiron (Cunningham) has given me the chance to play a number of first team games."

Southampton keen on Martina

The Daily Mail reports that Southampton are in discussions with Twente over a move for £3m-rated defender Cuco Martina.

The Rotterdam-born 25-year-old is a right back who can also play centre back. The Curacao international is well known by Ronald Koeman and his brother Erwin who coached him at RKC Waalwijk.

Neville on life in Spain

Former Manchester United player and coach Phil Neville started his role as assistant manager at Valencia on Monday and has been chatting to BBC Sport about life in Spain:

The Scotsman reports that Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is enjoying a holiday in the Scottish isles.

Abramovich has been spotted cycling around the Isle of Bute and took a stroll with his dog on Arran.

The Russian flew by private jet to Glasgow Airport late last week and then made the transfer to his 536ft yacht by private helicopter.

Koeman confirms Man Utd bid

Manchester United have had a bid for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin rejected, Saints boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed.

The 25-year-old missed the club's first day of training on Monday, but Koeman said the France international was ill and will fly out to Austria for their pre-season tour.

"He will travel tomorrow with the team. It may be difficult as everybody knows he'd like to move," said Koeman.

"But if there is no bid close to what we expect then he's a Southampton player."

Cristiano Ronaldo brought an abrupt end to an interview after being questioned about his contract with Real Madrid and the future of Bernabeu team-mate Sergio Ramos.

On his way out, the Portugal international can be heard having a pop at his entourage for not stepping in, writes Spanish newspaper Marca.

"You're the ones who ought to do this, man," said Ronaldo. "You have to tell them, 'wrap it up, wrap it up'.

"I'm being made to look stupid in front of people."

Lancashire captain Tom Smith will miss the rest of the season as he needs to have surgery on a back injury.

The 29-year-old all-rounder took over the captaincy from Glen Chapple this season but has only been able to play one County Championship match.

Last summer, Smith took more than 50 wickets in the Championship for the first time and hit 773 runs.

Lazio pull out of Borini deal

Italian club Lazio look to have ended their interest in signing Liverpool striker Fabio Borini,reports Talksport via Il Messaggero.

The Serie A side had agreed a fee with the Reds for the Italian but talks have stalled over the player's personal terms.

Lazio have qualified for this season's Champions League and could now switch their attentions to Bursaspor forward Cedric Bakambu.

Wickets tumble at Grace Road

The hectic pace continues at Grace Road where 12 wickets have fallen so far in the day, with Leicestershire just 15 runs ahead at tea.

Kent earned a valuable first-innings lead, thanks primarily to Darren Stevens, who hit a six and 12 fours in his 63 off 72 balls.

Ollie Freckingham (3-32) and Charlie Shreck (3-50) bowled well, but the home side's top order was again found wanting as paceman Matt Coles added two more victims to his six on the opening day.

Fifa bans official for seven years

Fifa has banned Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who is the former chairman of the bid evaluation group for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

He was also the ex-Chilean Football Association president and has been banned "from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for a period of seven years".

Scotland beat Namibia by six wickets

Scotland warmed up for the World Twenty20 qualifiers with a six-wicket victory over Namibia on Monday. 

Alasdair Evans, Michael Leask and Gavin Main each took two wickets for the hosts in Edinburgh as Namibia made 127 for eight. 

Richie Berrington (61 not out) helped Scotland to victory with the help of Kyle Coetzer (28) and Preston Mommsen (15 not out). 

Yorkshire openers through to tea

It's tea at Edgbaston, where Yorkshire are 15-0 in their second innings and have a lead of 159 runs over Warwickshire.

Earlier, Yorkshire bowled out the home side for just 69 in their first innings. Ryan Sidebottom took 6-34.

Murray going well at Wimbledon

Pirlo and Lampard team up

Further to the news that Andrea Pirlo has left Juventus and signed a two-and-a-half year deal with MLS side New York City...

The Italian midfielder will link up with Frank Lampard, who will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, with the Englishman expected to make his debuts in Sunday's league game against Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium and Pirlo in the home match with Orlando on 26 July.

Worcestershire back in the game

Daryl Mitchell and Joe Clarke shared an unbroken century stand to rescue Worcestershire after a poor start at New Road.

Richard Oliver went in the short period of play possible before lunch and Tom Fell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore also fell to Australian Jackson Bird (3-59) following the re-start.

But Mitchell has hit 10 fours in his 61 not out at tea, with 19-year-old Clarke equalling his first-class best by making exactly 50.

Notts make solid start to reply

"Rain has brought an early tea on day two with Nottinghamshire making a solid start to their reply.

"Brendan Taylor has an unbeaten 53, and the Middlesex bowlers have yet to find as much assistance with the ball as their hosts.

"Dawid Malan was earlier unbeaten on 182 as the visitors, who had been reduced to 132-6, were eventually dismissed for 374."

Sidebottom sparks Warwickshire collapse

It has been very much one-way traffic at Edgbaston since lunch, with a remarkable bowling display by county champions Yorkshire resulting in Warwickshire being bowled out for just 69.

The home side lost five wickets for no runs as they slumped from 35-3 to 35-8 in the space of five overs.

Ryan Sidebottom took 6-34 and Jack Brooks 3-14, but Warwickshire did at least manage to avoid the follow-on before Rikki Clarke was last man to go for 28.

Weather causes problems at Chesterfield

The weather continues to disrupt proceedings at Chesterfield where only 10 overs have been possible in the first two sessions.

Will Bragg (20) and Colin Ingram (five) are the two not out batsmen for Glamorgan , who are third in the table and have yet to lose a Championship game this summer.

Rain stops play at Old Trafford

Loan signing Liam Dawson struck an important blow for Essex by getting ride of Ashwell Prince for 21, but rain has sent the players back to the pavilion at Old Trafford.

Having been 92-3 at lunch, the Red Rose county only added four runs for the loss of Prince before the afternoon session was brought to a premature end.

Glasgow City lay out stadium plans

Glasgow City are exploring plans to build the first purpose-built women's football stadium in the UK.

The facility would have a standard pitch and training facilities in Auchinairn, East Dunbartonshire. It would be used by the Glasgow City Foundation and other community groups.

Glasgow City Foundation's Douglas Barnett said: "This will be the first purpose-built women's football facility in the UK - promoting the sport to new generations of girls and women."

Chelsea have room to improve - Drogba

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba believes the team from Blues manager Jose Mourinho's first spell in charge of the club is better than the current side, which won the Premier League title last season.

"I would say the first one was better because I was involved more as a player but there is a difference in the way that when I joined the team it was a bit more mature," he told an interview with BT Sport.

"Frank [Lampard], [Claude] Makelele, William Gallas - all these players were I think around 24, 25 and plus, so this time it's younger and I can see and I can feel that there is a gap, it can progress together so it's good for the players."

Morrison, 30, claimed one of the three places on offer at the Open de France, along with South African Jaco Van Zyl and Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello.

"As soon as you turn up at St Andrews, you have an amazing feeling," he said.

Owen, 43, from Mansfield, won one of the four places on offer in West Virginia at the Greenbrier Classic.

Scottish League Cup draw

The signing of Etienne Capoue from Tottenham will not be the end of Watford's summer transfer business.

Capoue's former Spurs team-mate Benjamin Stambouli is another player strongly linked with the Hornets and the club are are also rumoured to be interested in bringing Switzerland captain and Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler to Vicarage Road.

The Hornets, of course, have a major understanding of the European player network as their owners - the Pozzo family - also run Udinese and Granada.

New head coach Quique Flores seems happy enough with the club's player recruitment policy and will play a part in it with the owners and the technical directors.

South Africa number eight Duane Vermeulen is in a race against time to be fit for the Rugby World Cup which starts on 18 September after undergoing surgery on his neck.

The reigning South Africa Player of the Year missed the end of the Super Rugby season with the injury.

"This is a huge setback for us, but as with any injury in the game it's something that we simply have to overcome," said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

The BBC is revamping the format of its tennis highlights programme Wimbledon 2Day after a week of negative press coverage.

The show, presented by Clare Balding, is believed to have received hundreds of complaints over its format, in which experts such as Lindsay Davenport and John McEnroe stood awkwardly amidst a live studio audience.

Viewers were also dissatisfied by the lack of highlights, with airtime given over to home videos of babies playing tennis.

Pakistan battle back against Sri Lanka

Pakistan are 230-2 against Sri Lanka chasing 377 at close of play in the series-deciding third Test in Pallekele.

Pakistan were 13-2 at one stage but Shan Masood (114 not out) and Younis Khan (101) led the revival.

The series is tied at 1-1 after Pakistan won the first Test in Galle by 10 wickets and Sri Lanka took the second in Colombo by seven wickets.

Yemen punished for illegal player

Fifa have ordered Yemen to forfeit their World Cup qualifying match against North Korea 3-0 for fielding a banned player.

North Korea had won the game on 11 June 1-0 but Fifa increased the score the score in North Korea's favour because Mudir Al Radaei lined up in the Yemen defence when he should have been serving a one-match ban after getting two yellow cards in previous matches.

Chelsea remain confident of signing Begovic

The London Evening Standard reports that Chelsea expect to complete the £8m signing of Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic this week, despite late competition from Manchester United.

Chelsea have already agreed personal terms on a four-year contract worth £75,000-a-week for the Bosnia international, who will become the new back-up to Thibaut Courtois.

Stoke rejected an initial offer worth £6m last Monday, but Chelsea were prepared to pay another £2m and are also set to loan them either winger Victor Moses or striker Patrick Bamford.

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has had 1762 hairs grafted to his head in a two-day hair transplant. Apparently, the 31-year-old was inspired by seeing the results of work done on former Scotland team-mate James McFadden.

"Someone posted a picture of Faddy's hair online and, once I saw the difference it has made, I thought - I'm for a bit of that myself.

"When it's done properly it looks good. You start to feel a lot better in yourself as soon as it's finished."

Leaders Lancashire were pegged back by the Essex attack after making a solid start to the game at Old Trafford.

Paul Horton (25) and Karl Brown (18) shared an opening stand of 48, but then fell in the same over from Jamie Porter.

On-loan Liam Dawson then had Alviro Petersen (14) lbw, but in-form Ashwell Prince was 21 not out at lunch.

Stevens fifty boosts Kent

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood appears determined that striker Christian Benteke will not be sold.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing the 24-year-old but not for the £32.5m release clause in the Belgium international's contract.

Worcestershire struggle after strong start

Worcestershire made an excellent start to the game between the bottom two when Australian paceman Jackson Bird trapped Richard Oliver lbw in the third over.

But only six more deliveries were possible before the weather halted play and later prompted the umpires to order an early lunch.

England captain Charlotte Edwards will be aiming to lead England to a third consecutive Women's Ashes series victory this summer.

"I don't think it's too dramatic a statement to say that the 2015 Women's Ashes contest is possibly the most eagerly anticipated series in the history of international women's cricket," said ECB director of England women's cricket, Clare Connor.

"The pace at which the women's game is evolving at the moment is extraordinary. This summer for the first time ever, we will see two fully professional international women's teams in action."

Cuadrado set to remain at Chelsea

Juan Cuadrado's agent insists the Colombian winger is set to remain at Chelsea next season despite speculation linking him with a move.

The 27-year-old joined Chelsea in February in a £23.3m move from Fiorentina but made just four Premier League starts.

"Cuadrado is a Chelsea player, who [Jose] Mourinho strongly wanted just over five months ago and the coach truly believes in him," his agent Alessandro Lucci told Italian website www.tuttomercatoweb.com.

"He has many admirers but I reiterate that Juan is a Chelsea player. I, as his agent and intermediary, will decide with Juan his future, nobody else will."

McEachran set for Brentford move

Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran is set to move to Brentford on Monday in a permanent deal believed to be worth £750,000.

The 22-year-old made his first-team debut for Chelsea in 2011 against Zilina in the Champions League but has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

He has had loan spells with Swansea, Middlesbrough, Watford, Wigan and Vitesse Arnhem.

The women's version is contested over three one day internationals, one Test and three Twenty20s.

England have announced their squad for the opening ODI's, which start on 21 July, and have picked an experienced squad led by Charlotte Edwards.

Between the 14-players, there are 807 ODI caps, with Edwards (185), Kent team-mate Lydia Greenway (121) and Nottinghamshire's Jenny Gunn (125) all having represented England more than a 100 times in 50-over cricket.

Southampton players, like last summer, are in demand. Right-back Nathaniel Clyne has switched the south coast for Liverpool, while Morgan Scheiderlin could be the next one to leave, reports the Guardian.

Manchester United had a £20m offer for the midfielder rejected but will return with an improved bid for the 25-year-old France international.

Old Trafford boss Louis Van Gaal wants to get Schneiderlin on board before his squad before the club fly out for the summer tour of the United States on 13 July.

GB Women win U25 world title

The Great Britain women's wheelchair basketball team have won the World Under 25 title, beating Australia 44-35 in the final.

The team were dominant throughout the tournament, winning all their round-robin games, and produced a battling display in the second half in the final in China to secure victory.

Seven of the squad will be playing for the GB senior women's team at the European Championships which take place in Worcester in August.

But the Briton admitted afterwards that it was an emotional occasion and he was in tears.

England women return home from Canada

England captain Steph Houghton and Fara Williams, who scored the winning penalty against Germany in the play-off for third place, have been speaking to BBC Sport on their arrival back at Heathrow from Canada.

"I don't think you can put into words what a journey we have been on," said Houghton. "I'm proud of everyone involved. We wanted to inspire a nation and I think we have done that."

Williams added: "The performances we really did inspire people and this homecoming is the reward for that. The team performance against Germany was outstanding and we deserved our luck."

Nani arrives in Turkey

The 28-year-old arrived at the Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul on the way to completing a move to Fenerbahce from Manchester United and was greeted by a mass of supporters.

BBC Radio Solent understands Southampton could be set for a legal battle with Atletico Madrid over the Belgian international Toby Alderweireld.

Saints believe a deadline has passed for the La Liga side to buy back Saints option to make Alderweireld's move to St Mary's permanent, following his successful loan spell last season.

The Spanish club agreed an option of £6.8mat the time of his loan deal, but reserved the right to buy that back for £1.5m. But, as they did not pay on time, Saints believe they are the only club entitled to buy Alderweireld.

Spurs are one of a number of clubs reportedly chasing the highly-rated defender.

Streb loses in play-off after putting with a sand wedge

American Robert Streb made five birdies putting with a sand wedge to force a four-man play-off in the Greenbrier Classic before ultimately losing out to Danny Lee.

Streb damaged his putter when throwing it to his caddie at the ninth, but shot 65 to tie with Kevin Kisner, David Hearn and Lee on 13 under but after Hearn and New Zealand's Lee birdied the first play-off hole to eliminate Streb and Kisner, Lee then made par to win on the second.

O'Driscoll set to move to Liverpool
