  55. Adam Peaty Q&A

    Swimming

What's your advice for aspiring swimmers? From Emilia ‏

"Work hard but don't work hard and not smart, you have to have both to get anywhere in life.

"You have to work smart so cut out all the sweets and fizzy drinks - you don't need them. Just stick to water and keep it simple. Stay off the supplements when you're younger, you probably only need them when you're about 20-25 so stay off all that and just enjoy it."

    Adam Peaty

What is the worst thing about training? From Katey Kate

"That's a good one but it's probably when you get a bit too used to things. You've swum there in the morning and then again in the afternoon and you are turning up at night thinking 'not this again', especially in the winter.

"We try to mix it up and do something a bit different. I'll also change lanes, so one day I'll be in lane one, the next in lane three and one day in lane five so you get a bit of a different tile to look at."

  56. Adam Peaty Q&A

    Swimming

Adam Peaty, fresh from picking up three gold medals at the Swimming World Championships in Kazan, Russia, has been answering your questions on Facebook. Here's what you had to ask...

At what point did you realise you could be the best the world has ever seen, and did you think it could happen so young? From Carol ‏

AP: "Last year was a bit of an eye-opener when I broke the world record. I knew if I was out fast in the 100m I could achieve that too, so I would say then. I thought it could happen maybe when I was about 26, not when I was 20, but it just shows what hard work and commitment can do."

    Adam Peaty

Do you think Michael Phelps can regain what he's lost? Feisel Hodor Lyon

AP: "Yes, but I think he has a tough battle ahead with Chad [Le Clos]. Chad is going to come back even stronger now, I think Michael Phelps has just put logs on Chad's fire but then again Chad has probably put logs on his fire too. It's going to be a great showdown and definitely one of the races to watch."

But he is also unsure how long the England defender will be out for after he re-injured the ankle which required surgery earlier this year during training last week.

"We hope that Leighton's ankle reacts well but it's not good news because it's an area where he had a previous injury and you feel as though you can see light at the end of the tunnel after a long period not being available," he said.

"It's a setback but we want Leighton to get back on the pitch refreshed and this period is going to help his desire to come back."

The Mirror talks of "title omens" after Manchester City's comprehensive victory last night, touching on the fact that their previous winning campaigns have kicked off with Monday night wins.

More ominously in the short-term, perhaps, the paper also claims that Manuel Pellegrini is close to signing Wolfsburg playmaker Kevin De Bruyne for £47m.

Beyond City, Liverpool defensive midfielder Lucas is reportedly on his way out of Anfield after a bust-up with Brendan Rodgers, and West Ham fans are said to be up in arms over a potential move for Joey Barton.
