  10. 'Everyone is in the same boat'published at 13:42 British Summer Time 2 June 2020

    BBC Radio 5 Live

More from Millwall striker Matt Smith on whether players will be match fit:

"Probably not, no, is the honest truth of it. I don’t think any sort of training - albeit we’ll probably do a good bit of 11 v11 which will help - but I don’t think anything can replace the competitive game element that you would get from friendlies.

"Everyone is in the same boat. None of us can do it so maybe we’re going to have everyone come back at a 80% of their level rather than 100% like you might do otherwise.

"So you’re never going to get a perfect solution. Ultimately, there’s going to be downsides, wherever you look, but I think what we have got is the best possible solution."

    BBC Radio 5 Live

"It’s a swab in the back of your throat and up both your nostrils which isn’t the most comfortable test I’ve ever done but you know we’re used to it," he said.

"I think we’ve done five rounds of testing now so you're sort of used to shoving it up there when you get to the training ground and sticking it into a test tube.

"It's not the nicest but you’ve got to do it and to be honest with you in a strange way it does give you peace of mind when you see the negatives keep coming back.

"I think as a group of players we’ve realised how privileged and lucky we are to have that private testing available to us."

  19. 'Season will lack sporting integrity' - Barnsley write to EFLpublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 2 June 2020

    Football

Championship side Barnsley say the season will lack "sporting integrity" if it is completed.

The club have written to the EFL to raise their concerns, with the season set to restart on 20 June.

Barnsley are bottom of the Championship, eight points from safety.

“If the 2019-20 season is completed, it will be completed with a lack of sporting integrity,” the club said.

“Some clubs will have unbalanced squads compared to competitors due to ending player contracts.

“Some clubs will lose home-field advantage for matches behind closed doors in respect to the reverse fixture earlier this season. This is especially true with big rivalries and the loss of the respective revenue.

“Those clubs unfairly and unlawfully relegated to a lower division would face further uncertainty and potential failure of their enterprise.”
