There will be a new name on the BBL Cup this year, with 2018 runners-up Worcester Wolves taking on first-time finalists Bristol Flyers at the Birmingham Arena.

Bristol beat London Lions in their two-legged semi-final, edging their opponents out 84-82 in the away leg before easing to a 91-77 win on home turf back in December. Watch out for Fred Thomas, who has picked up an impressive 108 points in six BBL matches before this weekend.

Worcester Wolves, meanwhile, had to come from behind against two-time BBL Cup winners Leicester Riders after going down 66-63 at home in the first leg – which they did in impressive fashion with an 83-71 victory at the Morningside Arena.

Last year’s beaten finalists Sevenoaks Suns are back in the final for the fourth edition of the WBBL Cup and will come in as favourites having started the weekend in second place in the league – a competition they have won for the past two seasons.

The Suns came through their semi-final thanks to a 63-58 win over Newcastle Eagles, while Durham Palatinates booked their place in Birmingham by beating holders Sheffield Hatters 79-72 at All Saints High School.

The Suns lost by just two points in last year’s final and managed to win their league fixture against Durham 87-74 just last Saturday – but can the Palatinates spring an upset and take home their first major trophy?
