What a DRAMATIC finish to Group B. Only at the Euros...

Italy march on along with Spain. Albania are packing their bags.

Tomorrow, England return to action for the conclusion of Group C.

Albania's failure to defeat Spain means England are through to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams at the very least.

Gareth Southgate's side, however, will have their eyes set on qualifying as group winners.

    Tuesday's games

    Group D

    France v Poland (17:00)

    Group C

The Italy national team delegation head enjoyed that.

You might recognise him as goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon, who only retired from playing last summer at the age of 45.

Luka Modric, 38, is the oldest goalscorer in European Championship history - and just the second player to score at four different editions of the Euros after Cristiano Ronaldo (five).

Ronaldo, 39, will break Modric's record if he scores for Portugal at any stage this summer.

    FT: Croatia 1-1 Italy

Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma has conceded just two of his last seven penalties faced at the Euros finals, saving four of them, with one hitting the woodwork.

That includes the Euro 2020 final shootout win over England.

Croatia have still never lost to Italy since joining Fifa in 1994 - six draws and three wins. Probably not much consolation right now.

    What a player.

You can see Luka Modric was saying to Ivan Perisic 'come on guys'.

You have to feel for him the way it has ended for him.

  7. Watch Zaccagni break Croatia heartspublished at 22:26 British Summer Time 24 June 2024

    FT: Croatia 1-1 Italy

Mattia Zaccagni’s 98th-minute goal is the ninth goal in injury time at the end of a game at Euro 2024. There were only five in all of Euro 2020.

It was his first goal for Italy.

    Here it is...

Spain have won all three of their group stage matches at a Euros for the second time, after 2008. La Roja became European champions that year.

    On Croatia's penalty...

Under the current law it is handball.

There was no surprise when he [referee Danny Makkelie] went to the screen.

In today's game it's the law, as much as we don't like it.

The longer the game went on we were thinking Italy didn't have enough quality.

There was nothing in front of goal until Mattia Zaccagni.

Italy were under huge pressure and they had to get a piece of magic from somewhere.

At 16-years-old and being able to do what Lamine Yamal is doing is just unbelievable. I remember when we were 16 there was no chance that we were as mature and also had that quality, composure, decision making. What a great talent.

The Italy players and substitutes joined arms and ran over to their fans in wave to celebrate, before disappearing to the dressing room.

At the other end of the pitch, the Croatian team stood for several minutes applauding their supporters too - they've been brilliant tonight, and fully deserve it. They were still singing too, by the way.

Lamine Yamal is 16 so he's full of energy and he just wants to go out and play. It's a balance, but he's played a lot of games and he's performing so let him continue.

The save off the penalty from Gianluigi Donnarumma was a great save.

The save before Luka Modric's goal was great, he will be annoyed with his defenders for not backing him up after making such a great save.

  16. 'Croatian fans have stayed to cheer their players'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 24 June 2024

BBC commentator, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Croatia players are standing, taking off their shirts and standing in front to their fans.

The majority of them have stayed to give their acclaim to the players. They were seconds away from a win. It was only going to take something stunning to beat them then and it was.

It is hard to watch as we're wondering is this Luka Modric's last game for Croatia?

It is hard to take and he has been such a great player.

I'm not sure anyone in the stadium can quite believe what has happened. Luka Modric is walking around the centre circle and being consoled by his team-mates. He's got an Italy shirt draped around his neck, hands on his face - it's not that much of a consolation for the goalscorer to hear he's been named man of the match.

    Football is madness!

    The first half was uninspiring.

The second half we were wondering when Croatia would go for it. They came out and looked the better team.

For Italy it was, could they find the moment in the game - a wonderful finish from Mattia Zaccagni, the Lazio winger.

  20. Italy set up last-16 tie with Swiss in Berlinpublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 24 June 2024

Italy's reward for that astonishing finish? A game against Switzerland in the last 16 in Berlin on Saturday (17:00 BST kick-off).

Spain will have to wait to discover their opponents on Sunday in Cologne (20:00 kick-off).

They will face a third-placed finisher.
