  1. Post update

    Men's marathon

A strong finish from Alphonce Simbu who breaks into a sprint and waves to the crowd as he takes silver. Michael Githae takes the bronze with Liam Adams, the early pace setter in fourth.

  2. 'Kiplangat did not put a foot wrong'

    Men's marathon

    Steve Cram

    Athletics commentator on BBC TV

Look at the crowds to welcome home the 22-year-old marathon winner Victor Kiplangat. He took a little wrong turn towards the end but apart from that he did not put a foot wrong. He eventually broke Alphonce Simbu on the hills who claims second place for Tanzania.

  3. Gold - Uganda - Victor Kiplangat

    Men's marathon

Victor Kiplangat has got this in the bag. He laps up the roars of the crowd as he enters Victoria Square to take gold.

  4. Post update

    Men's marathon

Victor Kiplangat had to burn off a fan who decided to race him up a hill a few moments ago.

And now takes a wrong turn before hastily doubling back again. Will that make any difference to the outcome? Probably not. He looks to be still well, well clear.

  5. 'Look at his thighs'

    Men's marathon

    Steve Cram

    Athletics commentator on BBC TV

This is the last hill. Given our leader Victor Kiplangat's mountain running background you can see how strong he is. Look at his thighs. He doesn't look like a long-distance runner does he? Those quads have done some mountain running.

  6. Post update

    Men's marathon

Is anyone else trying to pick out spots on the marathon course that they know well? I've seen a couple of restaurants and bars that I've visited on previous trips to Brum. Good times.

  7. Track Cycling

    Women's individual pursuit qualifying

    Chris Boardman

Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

It was a great ride from Neah Evans, she got the catch that she needed and was fading a little at the end, but she gave it everything to make the final.

  8. Post update

    Men's marathon

Victor Kiplangat is well clear in the men's marathon. He looks so smooth and completely untroubled as he opens a good 20 second or so lead over Alphonce Simbu.

Michael Githae is around 90 seconds or so back down the road looking good for bronze.

    Thomas Duncan

BBC Scotland at Lee Valley VeloPark

The velodrome absolutely erupts as Neah Evans sets a new Commonwealth Games record of 3.23.476!

What a ride from the Scot, who goes into first place with eight riders still to go.

She's in with a great chance of being in the gold medal ride later with that time!

Evans caught England's Madelaine Leech, who sits fifth.

  10. Wales in hockey action

    Men's hockey: Canada 0-0 Wales

There's home nations hockey action to tell you about as Wales men get under way against Canada in their opening game of the tournament.

You can watch it all live right here.

  11. A tale of two screens

    Marathon

    Michael Morrow

BBC Sport NI at the Victoria Square

Birmingham 2022 encapsulated on two screens here at Victoria Square.

On one screen we have some of the world’s best athletes putting each other to the test in pursuit of a medal they’ve dreamed about for years, on the other we have Games mascot Perry the bull attempting to get a largely reluctant crowd to join him in the Cha Cha Slide.

  12. Unwin and Holt fined

    Katie Falkingham

BBC Sport at Lee Valley VeloPark

If you were with us yesterday, you'll remember that England's para-cyclist Sophie Unwin was left in tears after she was not awarded a bronze medal despite placing third in the tandem B sprint.

She and pilot Georgia Holt later unofficially posed on the podium with medals borrowed from their team-mates in the team pursuit.

Well, Unwin and Holt, as well as team manager Keith Reynolds, have each been fined 200 Swiss francs for doing so and had to apologise to the Commonwealth Games Federation.

  13. 'I didn't know I had beaten two-hour barrier...wow'

    Women's wheelchair marathon

    Eden Rainbow-Cooper

England's Eden Rainbow-Cooper, who won silver in the women's wheelchair marathon, dipping under two hours for the first time to finish in one hour 59 minutes 45 seconds: "It was hard but wow. What an incredible atmosphere for my first ever major championships, I'm over the moon.

"I didn't know I had beaten the two-hour barrier so let's go! Wow. It was incredible, there wasn't a bit of road without someone on it. People were screaming my name, telling us to keep going. It was incredible, it really helped to push me through.

"My family is here, my brother, my mum, everyone is here. It's such an incredible experience to be at home and do it."

  14. 'Mentality gets easier in last five miles'

    Men's marathon

    Paula Radcliffe

Women's marathon world record holder on BBC TV

Once you come into the last five miles of a marathon the mentality gets a little bit easier. You think 'a five-mile run is a normal recovery run that I can easily do'.

  15. Dean & Scott through to 200m freestyle final

England's Olympic champion Tom Dean cruised into the men's 200m freestyle final winning his heat.

He'll be joined in tonight's final by Scotland's Duncan Scott, who claimed silver behind Dean in Tokyo last year.

Also in the final eight are England's Joe Litchfield and Wales pair Matthew Richards and Calum Jarvis.

  16. Post update

    Women's individual pursuit qualifying

    Katie Falkingham

BBC Sport at Lee Valley VeloPark

The women's individual pursuit qualifying is under way but it's not to be for England's Grace Lister.

The 18-year-old is lapped by Australia's Sarah Roy in their heat, completing the 3km in three minutes 39.773 seconds, more than 14 seconds slower than leader Roy.

How does progression work in the individual pursuit? The fastest two riders overall will race for gold, with the riders with the third and fourth quickest times going head-to-head for bronze.

Scratch that. Michael Githae is burning both Jonathan Korir and Liam Adams off.

  18. Post update

Victor Kiplangat and Alphonce Simbu have cruised off at the front of the race after raising the pace a touch over the last kilometre or two.

Liam Adams is trying to stay in touch with Jonathan Korir and Michael Githae to battle for bronze.

  19. NI duo targeting top eight marathon finishes

    Men's marathon

    Michael Morrow

BBC Sport NI at Victoria Square

Big crowds out along the marathon finish line at Victoria Square with the race leaders now not too far away.

Northern Ireland's athletics coaches are pleased with how their duo Stephen Scullion and Kevin Seaward - who took fourth in 2018 - have positioned themselves.

They aren't going to win the race, but they're both well in the game for a top eight finish.

  20. Track Cycling

    Women's individual pursuit qualifying

    Thomas Duncan

BBC Scotland at the Lee Valley VeloPark

Neah Evans is Scotland's only competitor in the women's individual pursuit, after defending champion Katie Archibald pulled out of the squad through injury.

A medallist in the scratch and points races on the Gold Coast, as well as at the Olympics as part of the GB team, Evans is hoping for more success.

She goes alongside England's Madelaine Leech in qualifying. The fastest two riders will race for gold later. Third and fourth will fight for bronze.
