  1. wicket

    Mitchell c Swindells b Sakande 38published at 18:02 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Middlesex 266-3 v Leics

Abidine Sakande has battled hard on his Championship debut for Leicestershire and he's been rewarded with his maiden first-class wicket.

Daryl Mitchell is the Middlesex man to fall, caught by Harry Swindells, but Sam Robson remains steadfast, having moved to 137 not out.

A fine partnership that, though, that was broken just short of its century, on 95 runs.

  2. Jennings joins illustrious listpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 266-2 v Yorkshire

Keaton Jennings has now made 20 first-class centuries - 13 for Durham, five for Lancashire and two for EnglandImage source, Getty Images

Keaton Jennings' superb 132 at Emerald Headingley made him the 13th Lancashire batsman to score two first-class centuries against Yorkshire in the same season.

And what a list of Red Rose legends it is, starting with the great Archie MacLaren in 1899.

The ones that anyone reading this might actually be able to remember were: Cyril Washbrook (1948), Geoff Pullar (1959), Jack Bond (1962), Barry Wood (1970), Neil Fairbrother (1985), Gehan Mendis (1987), Nick Speak (1994), Michael Atherton (1995), Alec Swann (2002), Mark Chilton (2005) and Haseeb Hameed (2016).

But Hameed, now with Nottinghamshire, is the only one to do it in the same match (114 and 100*), his first Old Trafford Roses Match in August 2016.

  3. wicket

    Hildreth b Clark 107published at 17:52 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 276-6

Well, it seemed like it was going to take an epic delivery to remove James Hildreth, the way the Somerset skipper was batting.

    And it did.

A pearler from Jordan Clark, whose 3-51 is the main reason Surrey are staying competitive at the Kia Oval, beats him all ends up and sends the off stump flying.

Clark has taken the wickets of Kiwi opener Devon Conway and Hildreth - and also broke up the 144 stand between Hildreth and Lewis Goldsworthy by removing the latter.

    Middlesex 257-2 v Leics

Apologies if we've neglected the game at Merchant Taylors' School today but it's been a bit of a one-sided affair.

Sam Robson has moved on to 130no, chasing down Pieter Malan for 'top score of the day' honours.

He's being supported in a partnership that currently stands at 86 by Daryl Mitchell (35no).

Antony Melvin: What is the circle of hell called, that is reserved for Yorks skippers who stick Lancs in at Headingley and then watch them bat serenely for the first 5 sessions?

Serene? Two wickets not enough for you, Antony? No? All right then. Probably fair.

  6. wicket

    Jennings c & b Thompson 132published at 17:40 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 256-2 v Yorkshire

Keaton Jennings is gone in Leeds, for 132. His superb Roses Match century - his second this summer against the Tykes - finally comes to an end as Yorkshire take only their second wicket..

It's a second wicket too for Jordan Thompson, who takes a return catch from the South Africa-born England Test batsman.

  7. Game over for the day at New Roadpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Warwickshire 245-4 v Worcestershire

No more run plundering for Warwickshire in the Pears-Bears derby at New Road.

Following that five o'clock burst of rain, it's off for the day there.

The Bears close on 245-4, thanks to a 220-run second-wicket stand between Pieter Malan (141) and Dom Sibley (80).

  8. wicket

Gordon lbw Robinson 8published at 17:38 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent 20-1 v Sussex 181

Kent opener Joe Gordon - one of five debutants today - started well with a nice boundary early on in the hosts' reply to Sussex's 181.

But he's trapped lbw by Ollie Robinson.

There are worse ways to get out on your debut than to be simply beaten by a great ball from an England bowler.

  9. 100 runs

Century for Hildrethpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset

A 45th Somerset century for one-club man and skipper James Hildreth.

An important one too, with his side needing something from this game to seal Division One qualification.

He seemed to be on 99 for an age - but really kept his composure well given he had not recorded a Championship century since July 2019.

Hildreth also lost two partners while he was on 99, enough to unsettle anyone but he knocked Jordan Clark for two to move on to 101.

  10. wicket

Evison lbw Rushworthpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 257-7 v Durham

Joey Evison is the latest Notts batsman to be out at Chester-le-Street.

Chris Rushworth strikes for a third time on his 35th birthday.

Brett Hutton comes out to join Liam Patterson-White.

  11. wicket

    Westley c Hosein b Hudson-Prentice 1published at 17:32 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 146, Essex 47-2

Tom Westley goes cheaply as Derbyshire claim a second wicket.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice, on the day his impending move back to Sussex has been announced, has the Essex skipper caught behind.

Essex's new man in is Michael Pepper.

  12. wicket

Bartlett lbw Clarke 2published at 17:30 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 260-5

Veteran Rikki Clarke can still go at 39 and he does George Bartlett up like a kipper as Surrey take wickets in successive overs.

  13. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

James Hildreth has been on 99 for an absolute age.

And there's another wicket at the Kia Oval...

  14. wicket

    Goldsworthy c Smith b Clark 48published at 17:21 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 257-4

It's not Hildreth, though - had you there, eh?

The Somerset skipper remains tantalisingly close to a century but his 144-run partnership with Lewis Goldsworthy has ended.

Goldsworthy was himself just two runs shy of a half-century but is undone by a superb delivery from Jordan Clark that gave wicketkeeper Jamie Smith a nice catch.

  19. Close of play in Cheltenhampublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 214-6 v Hants

No more cricket in Cheltenham today.

The rain has not relented and the umpires have declared it time for an early night.

They want to get home and watch the football, don't they?

Gloucestershire will be the happier of the two teams with the decision - a draw will be enough for them to qualify for Division One cricket in September but Hampshire need a win.

The first day teetered one way and then another but the hosts recovered from 104-4 to close on a decent 214-6 overnight.

  20. wicket

    Cook b Reece 30published at 17:08 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 146, Essex 37-1

Derbyshire take their first wicket in the Essex reply - and it's the big one.

Alastair Cook goes for 30, bowled by Luis Reece.

The former England Test captain hit five fours.

He is replaced by Essex skipper Tom Westley.

Nick Brown has been there for an hour, on 10.
