James Anderson drops a ball outside off stump and it is absolutely mullered to the boundary by Devon Conway. That'll be Anderson's work done for the day as he finishes with figures of 20-5-55-1.

Conway now has the highest score by a debutant at Lord's. He won't realise it but that is quite an achievement after all the cricket that has been played here.

  4. NZ 242-3published at 84 overs

That might be my favourite one so far.

A clipped three from Devon Conway takes him to 132 - the highest score by any player on Test debut at Lord's. What a day.

My best mate and I bowled to Mike Gatting when he came to 'open' our new school nets. He had G&M sponsorship so could only use one of their bats, which was far too small, plus he refused to wear pads as "we were only kids". My mate then bowled a brute of an inswinger which he inside edged onto his shin and on to the stumps. He hobbled out but had to still smile for the camera!

Well bowled. It seamed away. Nicholls thought the length was nice to have a crack at.

  7. NZ 239-3published at 83 overs

Swing and a miss from Henry Nicholls, leaving Joe Root hiding his face behind his hand and Jimmy fuming in a way that only he can.

The next delivery bites off the seam and beats Nicholls outside off stump. Can England wheedle another wicket before the close?

This is the first time Conway has scored a century as an opener in first-class cricket. He has mostly played as a number three.

If he reaches 132 it will be the highest score by a Test debutant at Lord's, overtaking Sourav Ganguly's 131.

  9. NZ 239-3published at 82 overs

Devon Conway goes chasing a short, wide tempter from Stuart Broad but ends up flashing at fresh air rather than the ball, before he and Henry Nicholls settle themselves with a couple of singles.

  11. NZ 236-3published at 81 overs

Back-to-back lbw shouts against Henry Nicholls are turned down, before Devon Conway is beaten all ends up by one that nips back.

Jimmy looks like someone's just told him Christmas is cancelled.

  12. NZ 235-3published at 80.1 overs

    Oh, ouch.

A tempting delivery slides into Henry Nicholls' pads and he works the gap handsomely at square leg to get the final half-hour going with a four.

  13. new ball

New ball takenpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

Here comes the new ball, and it's thrown almost straight away to Jimmy Anderson.

  14. NZ 231-3published at 80 overs

    Nicholls 38, Conway 129

Stuart Broad is appealing for lbw against Henry Nicholls but he's looking at the umpire as he pleads, which means it isn't out...

...and yep, that's going down by some way.

  15. NZ 228-3published at 79 overs

Rory Burns, who has the absolute worst hair of anyone at Lord's, pulls off a fine diving stop at backward point.

  16. NZ 228-3published at 78.3 overs

Mark Wood finds a bit of awkward bounce from this flat pitch and surprises Devon Conway, who gets into a slight tangle as he tries to pop the ball down towards his feet.

A straight drive from Nicholls is half stopped by a sliding Stuart Broad before he slides a bit too far and ends up kicking the ball away, allowing the batters to steal a single.

I bowled Joe Root in school cricket. He was on 150 and was told to get out by his coach. I don't normally tell people that part as you should never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Stuart Broad, still headbandless, returns for another burst. There are still 12 overs left in the day, in theory...

  19. NZ 225-3published at 77 overs

Slightly loose from Devon Conway as he flings his arms at a wide Mark Wood delivery, and he ends up toe-ending it past his stumps and away for a single.

Played in a charity match in 2016 against 'Freddie Flintoff's Ashes Legends XI'. 4,000 strong crowd at Alderley Edge CC turned up to see him and the other Ashes winners of 2005. I clean bowled him first ball to a stoney silence around the ground. Piers Morgan played that day and gave him a great deal of stick about it.
