They have sent out Moeen Ali for the left and right hand combination. I think that played a big part in Kane Williamson bowling out Mitch Santner this early, because he is such a good player of spin.

Hales was in a different postcode. That was very wide but it's really gripped and spun.

The run map shows Alex Hales scored 52 with 1 six, 7 fours, 4 twos, and 10 singles for England

    Gone next ball!

Alex Hales tries to whack Mitchell Santner out of the ground and the ball just keeps spinning past his bat, and past the wide line, but Devon Conway collects and whips off the bails.

    New Zealand needed that.

Streaky, but four more for Alex Hales and it brings up another half-century.

That's his third in 12 innings since returning to the side.

England have got a great platform but Ish Sodhi and Mitch Santner have just started to pull a bit of control back for New Zealand.

    Four singles follow the boundary.

England have laid a lovely platform at the half way point of the innings.

They could post a massive total here.

    Shot!

Jos Buttler is going through the catalogue today.

He gets down early and reverse sweeps - perhaps even, slaps - Ish Sodhi to the boundary.

England are getting themselves into a very nice position here, with 10 wickets in hand. It's an excellent platform.

England just seem intent to build a platform at the moment. What sort of score will they need? 160 would be the minimum you'd think.

Six runs from Mitchell Santner's third over.

We've seen the pitch take a bit of spin in the game between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, so there's something in it for Ish Sodhi.

It's a very good over to start.

Interestingly, it looks like Moeen Ali has just been given the nod to go and get padded up.

More spin for New Zealand as off-spinner Ish Sodhi comes into the attack.

England sneak a single to Mitchell Santner at backward point. The fact he throws left handed means the single can be tight there.

It results in England turning down a single to end the over.

It looks like Moeen Ali is getting ready to come in next in the changing room. Jos Buttler spoke about being flexible at the toss.

Another good over for England, with 10 coming off Lockie Ferguson's first.

This is turning into a very good start for Jos Buttler's side.

I wouldn't even try to play that shot, Ferguson bowls too fast for my liking! That's probably why it was so effective for Jos Buttler, though, he used the pace.

Jos is an excellent player of that ramp shot.

What a shot, brilliant improvisation from England's captain. He's got that from outside off stump.

    Shotttt!

Jos Buttler shuffles outside off-stump and ramps Lockie Ferguson away for six.

It only went 65m but what a shot. Superb improvisation.

We're a bit speechless after that. We all got excited about the catch because we thought it was a blinder, but it definitely spilled out and hit the turf. It wasn't one of those that scrapped along the grass, it pops out and hits the grass.

Earlier in the over Alex Hales went deep in his crease and crashed Mitchell Santner through mid-wicket for another boundary. He looks in good touch.

    A good powerplay for England.
