Live Reporting

Sam Drury

All times stated are UK

  1. Phoenix 38-1

Devine hits Ballinger down the ground again but now we're out of the powerplay there's a fielder out at long-on to collect the ball.

Jones finds a single out at deep cover.

A good set from Ballinger, just two from it.

  2. Phoenix 36-1

    Amy Jones

A strong start from Amy Jones.

She pushes her first delivery into the covers and hurries through for two. She follows that up by stepping outside her off stump and ramping Cross through fine leg for four. A single to mid-on finishes off the set.

That's the end of the powerplay, 36 runs off it.

  3. WICKET

    E Jones c Davidson-Richards b Cross 10 (Phoenix 29-1)

A first Superchargers wicket for Kate Cross!

She perhaps drags her delivery back a little and the Phoenix captain Even Jones can only pick out Alice Davidson-Richards at mid-on for a simple catch.

In comes Eve's namesake, England wicketkeeper Amy Jones.

  4. How's stat?!

    Kate Cross

Kate Cross may well prefer to bowl to Sophie Devine than Eve Jones during the powerplay.

In the opening phase, the Superchargers seamer has dismissed 15 right-handers, averaging 15.06 with a strike-rate of 14.2, compared to taking the wicket of just two left-handers in the powerplay at 24 and a strike-rate of 20.

  5. Phoenix 29-0

    Sophie Devine

    Look out Eve!

Sophie Devine powers Ballinger's delivery back past her captain's head at the non-strikers head. No further obstacles past that and the ball scuds through for four.

Another boundary follows as Devine heaves through mid-wicket - one bounce and to the ropes.

  6. Phoenix 21-0

Better from Smith as she limits the Phoenix openers to a single each from her next three deliveries.

  7. Phoenix 19-0

The spin of Linsey Smith is introduced into the attack and her second ball is too full and wide.

Devine doesn't need asking twice and crashes the ball through the covers for another boundary.

  8. Phoenix 15-0

Ballinger gets a dot ball off her final delivery as Jones can only find mid-on.

  9. Phoenix 14-0

This time it's Sophie Devine finding runs down the ground, punching the ball straight past new bowler Grace Ballinger.

The seamer makes a grab at it, but it's going too fast and the ball races to the boundary.

  10. Phoenix 9-0

Almost a mirror image of two balls previous as Jones finds the boundary again, the ball going a little straighter this time.

  11. Phoenix 5-0

Cracking shot from Eve Jones, stepping down the pitch to crack Cross over mid-off for the first boundary of the match.

  12. Phoenix 1-0

As expected Kate Cross opens the bowling for Northern Superchargers.

Alice Devine tucks her into mid-wicket for a simple single to get us going.

  13. Post update

The Northern Superchargers are in a huddle on the outfield.

Phoenix openers Sophie Devine and captain Eve Jones are following them out, Devine hefting her bat above her head.

    We're almost ready.

  14. Post update

Sadly rain took out both games in the women's tournament yesterday, but we got some play in the men's tournament.

Why not enjoy some of the best action from the day, including Shaheen Shah Afridi's remarkable two wickets in his first two balls.

  15. Post update

Birmingham Phoenix captain Eve Jones: "I found out about the captaincy about four days ago. There was not much time to think about it. Ellyse Perry's going to be a massive loss for us but we've got a great replacement in Tess Flintoff.

"Bonding's been quite easy, we've a lot of players from Central Sparks, about 10 from there. It's been really good so far."

On the toss: "We'd probably have had a bowl as well, but we're not too disappointed."

  16. Post update

Northern Superchargers captain Hollie Armitage: "First game of the tournament, we want to bring the group together and keep Phoenix to a low total."

On losing Alyssa Healy: "Brilliant replacements and we're happy with how the squad looks.

"Preparations have been good, the weather hasn't been ideal but we've tried to make the most of it and it looks clear today."

On new players: "Kate Cross is a standout. She's fantastic bowler and exited to see what she can do in purple. She's nailing her Yorkshire accent too!"

  17. Northern Superchargers win the toss

Northern Superchargers captain Hollie Armitage has won the toss and chosen to bowl.

She'll be placing the ball in the hands of the very Lancastrian Kate Cross, with the England international making the step across the Pennines from Manchester Originals this season.

  18. Post update

    Good afternoon.

Two more teams get their Hundred season underway today - it's a double-header at Headingley as Northern Superchargers face off against Birmingham Phoenix.

The women's teams kick us off at 15:00 BST, with the men to follow at 18:30.

So settle down for the day - I trust you'll be with us for the duration?
