What a knock this has been. Glenn Maxwell is used to striking at 150, but he started off much slower before catching up. Cricket is all about partnerships and Pat Cummins has done such a job with him.

I don't know how but Maxwell has got four, but he has.

  3. Aus 249-7published at 43.1 overs

    Target 292

Glenn Maxwell is finding the boundaries with mis-hits!

Thick inside edge, through his legs and past short fine leg for four.

It is all going his way today.

Pat Cummins is going to play out this maiden and back Glenn Maxwell to just hit fours and sixes.

  5. Aus 245-7published at 43 overs

    Target 292

This is a bizarre over from Noor Ahmad.

Australia can't take singles and Pat Cummins can't find the boundary. He's not really trying to either.

He's backing Glenn Maxwell to do it from the other end. Maiden despite a couple of real drag-downs.

This is remarkable. He's not moving his cramped leg.

  7. Aus 245-7published at 42 overs

    Target 292

Full and on the stumps from Azmatullah Omarzai and somehow - somehow - Glenn Maxwell reverses this between the wicketkeeper and short third for four.

That shot simply wasn't on but he's managed it.

Glenn Maxwell is a remarkable cricketer. All of those in green and gold acknowledge this effort, he's barely got enough energy to lift his bat up. For a country that advertise a lot of cement, Maxwell has got his feet caught in it.

    Incredible!

No foot movement, this is all hand-eye coordination but Glenn Maxwell has that in spades!

He whips the ball wide of long on for four. This is just astonishing!

It's got to be four or six from Maxwell. There's no twos, there could be some easy twos here but they are not running.

  11. Aus 237-7published at 41.1 overs

    Target 292

Glenn Maxwell whips the ball into the leg side. In the gap and normally that would be two.

Now? No run. He can barely move.

  12. Aus 237-7published at 41 overs

    Target 292

Singles are basically off the table now for Australia.

Glenn Maxwell is seeing it well enough that he'll back himself to do this in boundaries.

But will his body hold up long enough for him to do so?

This partnership is worth 146 off 131, Maxwell has scored 125, Cummins has scored 11.

Glenn Maxwell is going to continue for now. Adam Zampa sits back down.

If there is another stoppage then I think Maxwell might not have much choice but to go off.

  15. Postpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

Adam Zampa is padded up and waiting on the boundary edge. Is Glenn Maxwell going to have to retire hurt?

Jonathan Trott is asking how long this delay will be...

Maxwell just stands still and nails the ball past extra cover.

  18. Aus 237-7published at 40.2 overs

    Target 292

Brilliant timing again from Glenn Maxwell.

He thumps Noor Ahmad through extra cover, it looks like it might be an easy single but it goes all the way for four.

Oh dear. Maxwell is down after taking a single next ball. He doesn't look in a good way.

  19. Aus 232-7published at 40 overs

    Target 292

Two dot balls from Naveen-ul-Haq to end the over as Pat Cummins is happy to see it out and just stay with Glenn Maxwell.

Why not? Since he was dropped by Mujeeb Ur Rahman on 33, Maxwell has been incredible. Even batting on one leg.

We're into the last 10 overs. It still feels like Maxwell or bust for the Aussies.

This is now the highest ever eighth-wicket partnership in ODI cricket.
