I think we've just seen in the space of three or four balls how this match could pan out. People with confidence taking on options. It was just over the top of the fielder, Mark Chapman. That will give New Zealand some early encouragement.

Rohit Sharma is in the mood early!

He whips the fourth ball just over mid-wicket for four and then drives the next past mid-off for another boundary.

A good start for India. The skipper is not holding back.

Trent Boult will be looking for some swing and to target the pads of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in this first over. He wants to bowl an awkward length, which will tempt them to drive.

And we're away.

First ball is on the pads from Trent Boult and Rohit Sharma turns it into the leg side for two.

The slight worry is that when Lockie Ferguson slides after chasing it down, it takes a big chunk out of a very sandy-looking outfield.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are out in the middle. Trent Boult is at the top of his mark.

I fancy the mood the New Zealand players are in. They've only had one shocker - against South Africa - but have been in every other game. We'll need to play the perfect game to beat India, but we play well in these situations. When people don't rate us, we're in there.

India have got all bases covered. They lost Hardik Pandya but then Mohammed Shami comes in and just picks up wickets straight away.

They seem to have all their players in form as well - if one batter fails, you know somebody else will do it.

India didn't really need to change the pitch. They can win on any pitch.

They are the strongest team by a long way but the pressure on them is something that many of their players won't have felt before.

I mentioned a bit of controversy and that is all about the pitch.

What we know for sure is that, after a late change by local officials, the match will now be played on a used surface.

There are literally people dancing in their seats just for India winning the toss.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "We would've had a bat first as well. It's obviously a used surface but we'll try to make use of it with the ball first up and hopefully there's some dew later.

"It's an amazing occasion. We're looking forward to the challenge ahead - it's a stiff one, they've been playing some great cricket, but we have as well.

"It's a great effort to get here but it all starts again."

India captain Rohit Sharma: "It looks like a good pitch, on the slower side as well but whatever we do, we know we've got to do that well.

"It was way back in 2019 that we played that semi-final, New Zealand have been one of the most consistent team over the years and it's going to be a good contest.

"It's a very important day. I've been constantly talking about how important it is to turn up on the day and forget what has happened in the past.

"We have to control the controllables."
