"We'd have looked to bowl first as well, for obvious reasons, but it looks like a really good pitch.

"We just have one change today, Matty Potts comes in for Brydon Carse, who is unwell today."

West Indies skipper Shai Hope: "We are bowling for obvious reasons with the weather around.

"We spoke about it in the meetings we need to start better with bat and ball. Today as long as we do that and get some momentum we will find ourselves in an interesting game.

"We need to bowl better areas, with the length, and if we do that we will make inroads. With the bat we need to assess and understand we have been batting well as a group. It's important for us to start well. I am sure the guys are going to pull trunks for the West Indies."

Jos Buttler calls heads, the coin comes down tails and Shai Hope decides to have a bowl.

He says that is due to the weather that has been around in Bridgetown.

Right then, it's just about time for the toss.

We've also had some extra details about this 43 overs per side game. Three bowlers can bowl nine overs, two bowlers can bowl eight.

The opening powerplay is reduced to nine overs and the third powerplay will begin at 36 overs.

Everyone has got a bit of time to kill while we wait for the rain to clear and Cricket West Indies have decided this is the opportune moment to announce their squad for the forthcoming T20 series against England.

The big news is the return of all-rounder Andre Russell, who last played for the Windies at the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Rovman Powell captains the 15-strong group for the five-match series while right-arm seamer Matthew Forde gets a first T20 international call up.

The first T20 will take place in Barbados on Tuesday.

There's international cricket being played elsewhere at the moment.

In Harare, Ireland set up a T20 series decider against Zimbabwe on Sunday by clinching a tense four-wicket win over the hosts today.

A 87-run sixth-wicket stand between Clive Madande and Ryan Burl helped Zimbabwe post 165-6 in Harare.

After losing early wickets, Harry Tector and Curtis Campher's 66-run partnership had Ireland on 120-3 before they departed within nine balls.

But late boundaries from Mark Adair and George Dockrell helped Ireland triumph with four balls to spare.

While we wait for play to commence in Barbados, here's some reading for you.

England's women beat India by four wickets to seal a T20 series win after a dismal batting performance from the hosts at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India were bowled out for just 80 in 16.2 overs with only Jemimah Rodrigues' 30 offering any resistance. A superb all-round bowling effort saw every England bowler take a wicket, with four claiming two.

England made hard work of the chase, losing six wickets, before eventually winning inside 11.2 overs.

England batter Will Jacks, speaking to TNT Sports before play: "I thought the second ODI the West Indies guys bowled better than they did in the first game. There was a bit of variable in the wicket and Alzarri Joseph was steaming in. The lights were also a bit tricky, I found it hard to pick up the ball. So I was proud of how I fought through that. I would have loved to have finished off the game, sometimes it doesn't work like that. We have nice decider today.

"I bat nicely with Phil Salt. Before we opened for England we opened in the SAT20 so we have a good understanding. We also played at the same junior cricket club growing up!

"So we've known each for a long time. We know how each other plays. Rotating the strike is crucial. There's going to be dots in the power so we want to capitalise as much as we can. We are not shy to put our foot down early. It's about extending that."

The rain is light enough that the players are out kicking a football around but umbrellas are still up around the ground.

Still no word from Barbados since the rain returned.

I think it is safe to say that we will now have a shortened game once play does get under way.

Just how many overs are lost all depends on how quickly they're able to get out there.

West Indies left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, speaking to TNT Sports before play: "I think as a spinner here you have to asses the conditions, finding the right pace on the wicket and bowling wicket to wicket. I have been working hard on my game in my past few months, doing specific work in different areas.

"I think as a bowler you should be ready to bowl to anyone and any situation because bowling to a left-hander is different to bowling to a right-hander because it's a match up and they try to come at you.

"England are one of the toughest team I have played so far because they always come at you. The never give you a chance to settle. They are looking to punish any bad balls. You have to be as consistent as possible. I am looking at the challenge of bowling to anyone and doing a job for my team."

The wait goes on then but all indications are that we will get a game at some stage.

When exactly that is remains to be seen.
