Summary

  • Worcestershire's Kashif Ali scores second century of Division One match against Warwickshire

  • Lancashire and champions Surrey manage 21 balls before play abandoned on day three

  • No play at Durham, Derbyshire nor Yorkshire on day three

  1. wicket

WICKET Sanderson c Simpson b Robinson 27published at 11:37 British Summer Time 7 April

    Sussex v Northants 333-9

It was fun while it lasted, but the free-wheeling Ben Sanderson cameo is over.

Ollie Robinson bangs the ball in short, well outside off stump.

Sanderson tries to fetch it round the corner and top edges a catch to captain-keeper John Simpson behind the stumps.

Time for Aussie overseas player Chris Tremain to have a bat.

  2. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 7 April

    Middlesex 175-1 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

That is a glorious shot from Mark Stoneman!

James Harris puts one on his hips and Stoneman almost flicks it nonchalantly over the ropes down towards the corner of the Tavern and Allen Stands.

That shows how much trust the batters have in this Lord's pitch.

    Kent 284 v Somerset 22-0

It's not quite been plain sailing for Somerset openers Matt Renshaw and Sean Dickson in the first nine overs of the day, but they have made it through the first 40-odd minutes on day three unscathed at Canterbury.

  4. dropped catch

Hannon-Dalby dropped on onepublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 7 April

    Warwks 318-8 v Worcs 360

Warwickshire have lost three wickets in four overs since the new ball was taken this morning.

You sense a fourth wicket is coming as Oliver Hannon-Dalby plays and misses Nathan Smith outside off.

Chance! OHD nibbles outside off, edges and the ball is dropped by Jason Holder at first slip.

Low and to his left but just about catchable.

    Sussex v Northants 325-8

This partnership is more than a little irritating for Sussex.

33 added since the early wicket of Finan this morning.

Ollie Robinson replaces James Coles in the attack and is belted for two boundaries by Sanderson, who pulls imperiously through mid wicket and gets four more swiped through square leg.

Nice little cameo from the Northants number 10.

    Is 350 on here?

  6. 'Hartley and Lyon will hope outfield dries quickly'published at 11:31 British Summer Time 7 April

    Lancashire 202 v Surrey 11-0 - delayed start

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

How much cricket will Tom Hartley get for Lancashire? Will Lancashire be able to play two spinners at some point this season?

Just two of the questions being asked before the season started, after Hartley's impressive England debut, which followed Lancashire's decision to sign Nathan Lyon.

The answer came in the very first game of the season. Lancashire picked them both, and both were bowling under floodlights in the gloom on a windy April day in Manchester.

I suspect this could be the sign of things to come, there is every chance both will play together for most of the seven games in which Lyon is available to play.

With bright skies and sunshine at Emirates Old Trafford today, both will be hoping the outfield dries up quickly so we can watch them bowl again.

  7. 'Westley's strength can be a weakness'published at 11:30 British Summer Time 7 April

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 90-2

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex Sport

Tom Westley is very strong through midwicket, but a strength can be a weakness.

He does have a tendency of not quite getting over the ball and giving a catch to short midwicket.

  8. 'Not the start Northamptonshire wanted'published at 11:28 British Summer Time 7 April

    Sussex v Northants 321-8

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

That's not the start Northamptonshire wanted. A lot now depending on Lewis McManus.

Ben Sanderson has made useful runs down the years, it'll be interesting to see how he bowls on this surface and with the Kookaburra ball he didn't hugely relish the experience last season in the matches that they used that particular ball.

But his record against Sussex is exceptional.

  9. 'The ground was already saturated'published at 11:28 British Summer Time 7 April

Durham v Hampshire - no play on day three

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Play has already been abandoned on day three of Durham v Hampshire because of heavy overnight rain and more rain this morning.

The ground was already saturated and as yet no play has been possible on the three scheduled days so far.

Tomorrow is the final day. If it happens. If it doesn't, it will be the fifth time since 1992 Durham have lost an entire game to the weather - and the second time against Hampshire.

So far they have lost two at home and two away.

  10. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 7 April

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 87-2

With the wrist skills of a subcontinental batter, Tom Westley whips one through midwicket to the fence.

    That is his first boundary.

Westley has a big job as it's that crucial third innings of the game, with things in the balance.

  11. wicket

WICKET Booth lbw b Smith 1published at 11:26 British Summer Time 7 April

    Warwks 316-8 v Worcs 360

There's definitely seam movement for Joe Leach and swing for Nathan Smith this morning.

Michael Booth tries to drive Smith through the off side and that's a good stop at cover.

A push and a miss follows outside off stump and now Booth has gone!

    Smith has 3-49.

Booth tries to glance to leg and is struck on the knee roll. Looked very straight and the umpire gives it.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby joins Danny Briggs in the middle.

  12. Second batting point for Northantspublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 7 April

    Sussex v Northants 313-8

Batting bonus points were a rarity for Northants last summer.

But they have at least two in this game as Ben Sanderson aims a flashing drive down the ground, just out of the reach of Jayden Seales for two.

More runs for Northants in the next over as Sanderson stays in the crease and cuts Coles to the cover boundary for four.

Four to McManus with a lofted drive down the ground.

13 runs off the Coles over.

  13. Missed chance for Kentpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 7 April

    Kent 284 v Somerset 6-0

Wes Agar finds the edge of Sean Dickson's bat but Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond drops the chance to his left. A tough opportunity.

Then a big lbw shout from the very next ball and it's turned down.

    Kent sniffing an early breakthrough.

  14. wicket

WICKET Elgar b James 26published at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 April

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 78-2

Dean Elgar is bowledImage source, Rex Features

    The wicket Notts really wanted!

Coming round the wicket to Dean Elgar, Lyndon James leaves the stumps splayed in all directions with a cracker that lifts and hits Elgar's glove before going on to the wicket.

The South Africa opener can bat for long periods, so Notts will be happy to see the back of him.

The lead is 38 with eight wickets left.

  15. wicket

WICKET Burgess b Smith 7published at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 April

    Warwks 306-7 v Worcs 360

The new ball is doing the business for Worcestershire.

Danny Briggs sees out the Joe Leach over but now Michael Burgess has gone.

He shapes up to drive Nathan Smith down the ground, misses and loses his off stump.

Spectacular dismissal and Warwickshire are under the pump.

Michael Booth is in at number nine for the hosts.

  16. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 7 April

    Middlesex 155-1 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

A brisk start from Mark Stoneman and Max Holden to day three for Middlesex.

17 runs from the first three overs with a boundary apiece off Craig Miles.

Bat, bat and bat some more is the order of the day for the home side.

  17. wicket

    WICKET Mousley c D'Oliveira b Leach 62published at 11:12 British Summer Time 7 April

    Warwks 306-6 v Worcs 360

Early wicket for the Pears this morning - and it's a big one.

Dan Mousley mistimes a leg glance to a straightening ball from Joe Leach and lobs a gentle catch up to Pears captain Brett D'Oliveira at mid wicket.

    Danny Briggs is in next.

  18. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 7 April

    Sussex v Northants 296-8

Can Sussex wrap this up early?

Lewis McManus pushes James Coles carefully into mid wicket for the first run of the day.

Sanderson is off the mark to the third ball, tucking Coles behind square leg for a couple.

Sanderson has a slip, gully and forward short leg for company and he'll keep the strike with a leg bye that runs the ball down to fine leg.

  19. 'Bowling looked really hard work yesterday'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 7 April

    Kent 284 v Somerset 5-0

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset looked very rusty at the start yesterday in both their bowling and fielding.

Kent got off to a pretty fast start with Tawanda Muyeye and Ben Compton putting on 59 for the first wicket.

And then Lewis Gregory, after he'd gone for 20 in his first over, found his rhythm and started bowling really well.

The interesting thing was Somerset had four Kent wickets down at lunchtime and they got a fifth early on in the afternoon.

Then there was that partnership between Harry Finch and Joey Evison which added 85.

Bowling looked really hard work, the ball had gone soft, it's a Kookaburra ball, it's a pretty flat pitch, it was very, very hard for the bowlers to spark any life.

The feeling in the Kent camp was that they didn't bat as well as they could have done and could have got more.

  20. One to followpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 7 April

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 75-1

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle is saying that Essex opener Feroze Khushi could be in hot water with the ECB.

Umpire Tom Lungley took out a bat gauge and it appears that Khushi's bat failed that test.

That will surely appear in the match referee's report.

In a similar incident in 2022 involving Durham's Aussie batter Nic Maddinson, the county were docked 10 points.
