  1. WICKET Sanderson b Robinson 5

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 168-9 - lead by 61

Now Ollie Robinson is back into the attack from the Cromwell Road End.

Two slips, a silly point, a forward short leg and a backward short leg in the filed.

He's gone! Ben Sanderson has been yorked in the second ball of the over.

    The middle stump cartwheels back.

Robinson has 400 first-class wickets and last man Chris Tremain is in.

  2. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 168-8 - lead by 61

The light has improved a little at Hove and paceman Jayden Seales is back in the attack, bowling to three slips and an extra cover.

Lewis McManus leaves the ball outside off.

Seales goes round the wicket and McManus sways out of the path of a quick bouncer.

    Maiden over. 25 remaining.

  3. 'All credit to the two teams'

    Middlesex 655 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec & 31-2 - match drawn

    Roland Butcher

Former Middlesex and England batter on BBC Radio London

I think this game really has been a batting exercise for both sides.

The 620 by Glamorgan only losing three wickets but in response Middlesex getting 655, so that tells you really what it's all about.

The other positive is that Glamorgan were able to bowl Middlesex out - a positive for them.

In the whole game there hasn't been any huge margins, so everything is free in love and war and that's what we've had here.

Good for the spectators to actually see a first game with so many runs being scored and so many records being broken as well.

And above all not one drop of rain, so that has to be a big plus.

All in all, all credit to the two teams, the first game is not an easy game to play and Glamorgan had to really do it from behind, they lost the toss and nobody knew what was going to happen, they set the pace and having done so Middlesex were able to come into their own as well.

  4. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 168-8 - lead by 61

James Coles gets a ball to keep low off a length and Lewis McManus does well to dig it out.

He picks up a single pushes between gully and silly mid off.

    Solid defence from Ben Sanderson.

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 167-8 - lead by 60

Four runs to Ben Sanderson this time, driven to long off.

Jack Carson tosses the ball up and Sanderson drives it back to him all along the ground.

A short ball is tapped back down the pitch to end the over.

Lewis McManus has the strike now.

  7. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 163-8 - lead by 56

Lewis McManus is troubled by the third ball of the latest James Coles over, beaten with a quicker ball on the back foot outside off stump.

A precious two runs come off a thick inside edge to fine leg.

Four leg byes off the fifth ball and the sixth is hammered away by McManus for four. 10 off the over.

  8. Lord's run-fest ends in draw

    Middlesex 655 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec & 31-2 - match drawn

Honours even at Lord's, where Middlesex and Glamorgan batters certainly got their eyes in during the opening round of this year's County Championship.

Glamorgan's Sam Northeast scored a ground-record 335 not out and that was followed by Ryan Higgins' 221 for Middlesex.

Northeast finished on 14 not out in Glamorgan's second innings, so it's 349 runs without being dismissed for him. Pretty sure he'd have taken that before the start.

    Sam Northeast looks on
  9. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 153-8 - lead by 46

Sanderson survives an LBW shout against Carson.

    Just outside the line?

Another nervous moment as Sanderson just successfully defends on the back foot with an inside edge on to the pad.

    An eventful maiden over.

  10. 'Plenty of plus points for Somerset'

    Kent 284 & 290-4 v Somerset 403 - match drawn

    Anthony Gibson

    BBC Radio Somerset

15 points is a good haul for an away game in the early season, in which Somerset in recent years have not done particularly well.

There have been plenty of plus points for Somerset in this game.

In the end, a combination of a placid pitch and a ball that goes soft around about 20 overs in proved too much for Somerset to be able to force the win.

  11. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 153-8 - lead by 46

Sanderson gets a single off the fifth ball of the Coles over, driving to cover point for one. A little airborne but the ball lands safely.

    McManus sees out the over.

Time for Sanderson to face Carson at the other end.

  12. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 152-8 - lead by 45

Ben Sanderson batted well in the first innings, scoring 27 off 28 balls in very different circumstances when Northants were trying to set the tone on first innings.

He sees out the rest of a wicket-maiden from James Coles.

Sussex deploy a slip, silly point, forward short leg and a backward short leg.

Lewis McManus turns the last ball to the on side but there's no run.

Another maiden over. 31 overs left if weather permits.

  13. WICKET Root c Higgins b Du Plooy 11

    Middlesex 655 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec & 28-2

Middlesex have a second wicket, but all the drama is at Hove...

  14. 'Denly never looked in any real trouble'

    Kent 284 & 290-4 v Somerset 403 - match drawn

    Anthony Gibson

    BBC Radio Somerset

It was Joe Denly really who snuffed out any remaining Somerset hopes by the way that he came in.

Kent were in trouble when he came in but took the attack to the bowlers, never looked in any real trouble and has seen Kent safely into home waters.

  15. WICKET Finan c Alsop b Coles 0

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 152-8 - lead by 45

Northants are fading fast. Six wickets in the match for James Coles.

Four fielders are crowded round the bat.

Michael Finan drives and edges chest high to Tom Alsop at second slip.

Ben Sanderson is in at 10 for Northants.

  16. Kent-Somerset ends as draw

    Kent 284 & 290-4 v Somerset 403 - match drawn

All over at Canterbury, where centuries by Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly have secured a draw for Kent against Somerset.

There will have been a few doubts creeping in when Somerset reduced Kent to 68-3 in their second innings just after lunch, still with a deficit of 51.

But experienced duo Bell-Drummond and Denly guided Kent to safety with a fourth-wicket stand of 222.

  17. Post update

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 152-7 - lead by 45

Finan sees out the Coles over and the field is set deep for McManus.

McManus isn't tempted just yet and plays back in defence.

    Maiden over.

  18. WICKET Denly c Renshaw b Goldsworthy 110

    Kent 284 & 290-4 v Somerset 403

    Oh, a wicket!

It's been played at a pretty sedate pace for the past couple of hours so that's come as a real surprise.

Joe Denly edges to slip and goes for 110 off 142 balls. The partnership ends on 222.

  19. WICKET Keogh lbw b Coles 55

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 152-7 - lead by 45

He's out! It's come down to the Northants tail.

Rob Keogh is forward, missing a defensive push and is struck on the knee roll in front of off stump.

James Coles has his second wicket of the innings and Michael Finan joins McManus in the middle.

  20. 'Sussex have been positive since tea yesterday'

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 152-6 - lead by 45

    Adrian Harms

    BBC Sussex

It's been a terrific effort by Sussex this afternoon to take the game as deep as they have.

They have been very positive since tea yesterday.

They have worked their way through the Northamptonshire order, whether they'll have enough time or not or if any bad weather will stay away long enough, we'll have to wait and see.

But it is certainly a final day that I don't think we really expected.
