"Canada's manager John Herdman does like to talk and he will play mind games. Norway tried that a little bit too, with all the talk in the press before the match. But I think England will cope with that, just as they did today.

"Canada beat England in the last warm-up game before the World Cup started, but they won't be taking a lot from that. I'm sure John will come out with a few things to say but they will be ready."

"The warm-up game against Canada - it was not the best of games, quite edgy. I think the quarter-final tie will be completely different. England will need to use the crowd as a positive, believe in what they are good at and be a really tight group.

"Who will play against Canada? Against Norway Mark Sampson brought striker Jodie Taylor on. I don't know how fit she is after her injury problems before the tournament. She is probably not fit to start. Then there is Eni Aluko, who had been in great form coming into the tournament and started against France but has not played since. The coach has got a great handful to pick from."

It is barely a month since England last met Canada, with the two meeting in a Women's World Cup warm-up towards the end of May. Canada won that one, with England second best for large periods of the game. England look to have come on a fair bit since then, though.

"Mark Sampson is the tinkerman, that's what everybody has been calling him. He will change the players, the formation I have no clue what team he will pick but I would go and play a nice game of positive football because that is what England are best at.

"Previous manager Hope Powell did a great job of setting up the team defensively over the years but the players felt frustrated that we went up to a certain point on the pitch and had no end product in the final third. We wanted to express ourselves and had the creative players to do that.

"England still do know how to defend but you have to give them a licence to express themselves, because I really believe they can go and win games."

"It is difficult when you are not starting but I just felt like I kept myself ready and did my bit to help the team. We go through a lot of tactics before games and I felt like I knew what I was doing."

"If England go 1-0 up on Canada there will be massive pressure on them, because everybody will be expecting them to go through - all the fans of the home nation. England will need to be patient but they also have to be expressive.

"Being an underdog you have nothing to lose. That will take the pressure off us. Today, people looked a bit nervous, as if maybe the history was pining them down. Now, they can just go out and play."

Norway respond by making their second change of the game, striker Elise Thorsnes on for Kristine Minde and she is straight into action as a poor clearing header falls to her inside the area, but she shows rustiness to slice wide.

This is much better from England, forcing Norway back into their own half. They forge an opportunity when Steph Houghton knocks the ball on for Karen Carney to chase down the left. Her cross is just over the heads of her team-mates but runs out to an unmarked Jill Scott, whose low shot lacks power and accuracy. England, though, are giving Norway a few things to think about.

"Toni Duggan has been feeding off scraps so far, up front for Mark Sampson's side. I'm no tactical genius but surely somebody more attacking needs to come on if there are to be changes at half-time."

England are living dangerous as half-time approaches. Lucy Bronze sells Karen Bardsley short with an awful backpass and Ada Hegerberg is in, she has a fair shout for a penalty too as Bronze, trying to make amends, tries to wrestle her down to the ground in her desperation to get to the ball. The Norwegian stays on her feet and smashes a shot goalwards, but straight at Bardsley.

Moments earlier there was hesitation between Laura Bassett and Bardsley that almost caused problems for a very nervy England.

She has a go at goal and gets the power but not the accuracy and the ball whizzes wide of Karen Bardsley's left-hand post. She turns, red faced from the heat and breathing heavily. The players will be desperate for half-time.

Karen Carney is caught by a stray boot as she tries to latch on to Toni Duggan's ball and England have a free-kick some 30 yards from goal. Fara Williams fancies it, but launches the ball well, well over.

"Much better from England, this is what we want to see. Just over the past few minutes the midfield has been sitting a bit higher up, pressuring the Norwegian centre-backs in possession. A slightly fortuitous corner for England as a ball forward flicks off Marita Skammelsrud Lund's shoulder and behind. The corner is headed away but England keep the ball and start to put a bit of pressure on as Karen Carney's trickery forces a panicky Norway defence to thump the ball behind. Again the corner comes to nothing, with Steph Houghton heading over, but better from England after a very dull first half hour.

Norway must think they have spotted a weakness in this England side as they are looking to ping crosses into the box at every opportunity. Full-back Ingrid Wold sends the ball into the middle of the area from the left and Ada Hegerberg gets in between Laura Bassett and Steph Houghton, but sends her header wide.

The gaps are too big between England's midfielders and forwards, with Toni Duggan pretty much operating as a sole striker, completely isolated. Lucy Bronze tries to lead a charge forward but she has no options and Duggan has to come wide to help her out, giving Norway time to close her down and snuff out the attack.

No doubt it is a bold move by Mark Sampson to rotate his side as often as he does, but it certainly makes it difficult for his opposition boss to do his homework on England. At the moment, Sampson's side are coping well with Norway's physicality, although struggling to string a few passes together and no real chances for either side yet.

"The heat is going to make it difficult, especially when it gets towards the second half, Cramp might set in. They will take on lots of fluid. It will be the same for both teams, though.

"Mark Sampson has changed the personnel but kept the formation, which I like. Toni Duggan will be key. She has to work the channels. If she does get fatigued, there are lots of players to bring on.

"The fact that all 20 outfield players have played keeps them motivated and they are all ready if needed.

"Norway are a good team. It will be very tight. I think England will win in extra-time."

At 32, Mark Sampson is the youngest manager in the knockout stages of the World Cup, while Norway boss Even Pellerud is the oldest at 61.

He is in his second stint as Norway boss, after leading them to the 1995 World Cup title in his first spell. The Norwegians beating England at that tournament 2-0 in a preliminary round.

England haven't got the best record in the world against Norway, having beaten them just three times in 16 meetings but those three wins did come in their last four meetings, with Norway's last win back in 2002.

"We lost 2-0 but it would have been a lot more had it not been for our goalkeeper Pauline Cope that day. Nothing's changed - they have a conveyor belt of good players. But I'm going for a 2-1 England win tonight. I think we've got more goals in us."

Norway captain Trine Ronning explained the motivations behind the video, mentioned at 21:23 BST.

"We can use the sarcasm against ourselves because it's not real," she told BBC Sport. "If it can reach many places around the world then that's good.

"Today I can stand tall and be very proud of what I'm doing because the product is so good - the skill level is getting better and better. It's not like five or six years ago when I didn't feel proud to say I am a soccer player because you get a stamp of 'Oh, you're a lesbian', or that kind of thing.

"I think it's important that it gets out into the world, so if you go with the flow and take it with humour it's a very good way to do it."

It is not just her first goal at this tournament Eni Aluko is looking for, she is yet to score at all in three World Cup appearances. Such is her desperation to score that she has turned to her brother Sone for advice.

"I talk to my brother all the time, I talk to him a lot before games and he gives me lots of advice," says Aluko.

That's Sone who scored just one goal in 25 Premier League appearances for Hull last season. I'd probably take that advice with a spoonful of salt...

On the scoresheet in that friendly with Norway back in January 2014 was Eni Aluko, who is still waiting for her first goal at this year's Women's World Cup.

"It's nice to know I've got a goal against Norway," she told the Guardian. "But it does feel a long time ago. A lot's happened since then. There's been a lot of changes tactically and a lot of changes emotionally for us.

"But, as a forward, it always helps psychologically if you've scored against a team before. It would be brilliant to do it again. But we need to win this time."

Aluko, who starts on the bench today, also revealed in her BBC column that players have to adopt a poker face when told whether or not they have been selected.

"We are very good at putting on a poker face, being respectful of others in the squad and pretending it's all OK. But sometimes it's just not and some players obviously get frustrated," she said.

Since losing to France in their opening game of the World Cup, England beat Mexico and Colombia to finish second in Group F and secure their place in the knockout stages.

Mark Sampson boasts an impressive record since he took over from Hope Powell in 2013, having won 16, lost five and drawn just two of his games in charge.

One of those draws came in his first game as England boss. Incidentally against Norway, when the two sides shared a 1-1 draw.

They may not have won a knockout game before, but England are actually bidding for a third successive quarter-final appearance at the Women's World Cup.

They lost to the United States at the last eight stage in 2007 and then France in 2011, but with the tournament having been expanded from 16 to 24 teams, they now have an extra round to navigate, and Mark Sampson is feeling confident of his side's chances.

"We are building a real sense of momentum emotionally and in our results and performances so we can play them confidently and look to be positive," he said. "Norway drew 1-1 with the best team in the tournament [Germany] in the group stage, but we are playing well and have weapons to potentially hurt them."

Hello! Welcome to our coverage of England's last-16 match with Norway at the Women's World Cup

Unsurprisingly, Bjorge Lillelien's memorable words have already been called upon ahead of the encounter, with Norwegian newspaper VG Sporten asking if Mark Sampson's team "are ready for a hell of a beating" in Ottawa.

Norway probably have every right to feel confident, being veterans of seven World Cups and winners of the tournament in 1995, but the Lionesses have been improving with each game in Canada, recording back-to-back wins to reach the knockout stage.

They also have a significant carrot on the end of the stick - the chance to win a knockout game at a World Cup finals for the first time in their history.

Will anyone be in for a hell of a beating?

That it is, though, with the Norwegian press taunting England's women's team in the build up their World Cup last 16 meeting with Norway tonight.
