Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger speaking to 5 live Sport: "Signing Charlie Austin from QPR is a clear sign of our direction, our hunger to continue to grow and the love we have for maintaining an English spine in the team. Charlie is an athlete, a footballer, who fits into our culture.

"He has been tracked by us for years now - we have so much depth of information. He's a young player, 26 years old, and we think he still has a huge learning curve and he's still hungry to play for England. We will do everything possible to find Charlie's potential."

If that isn't good business in the transfer market, I don't know what is. Saints fans, you must be happy with that?

With his contract up at the end of the season, and with promotion a distant possibility, QPR presumably decided to cash in on the player - who scored 18 Premier League goals last term.

Southampton arrested a slightly worrying slide with a 2-0 home win over Watford on Wednesday - their second league win in nine games.

Can they reproduce that kind of performance against West Brom?

Tony Pulis' side produced a brilliant away showing in their last match - a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

They will be looking to repeat that at St Mary's - and who can say, maybe they'll even sneak all three points this time?
