Imagine looking forward for months to representing your country at the European Championship - and you're forced to limp off inside the opening 15 minutes of the first match.

That's what's happened to Ukraine's Oleksandr Zubkov who touched the ball just six times and completed four passes before he went off head bowed.

Cruel.

Instead it's the referee who gets a touch in midfield. He has to halt play as the Netherlands were building a nice attack.

The fans give him a sarcastic boo.

Martin de Roon almost intercepts the ball in the middle as Ukraine move it around for a few minutes.

He eventually wins it on the edge of his box and Georginio Wijnaldum holds off four players to win a free-kick. The ball is like glue to his foot!

The front three of Ukraine link-up smartly as they break with pace. It comes over to Andriy Yarmolenko, who tees up the cross.

It's cut-back to the edge but the chance is lost and the Netherlands break.

Memphis Depay pokes it through to Patrick van Aanholt in the box and he's INCHES from touching it in. Oooft!

Rachel Ellis: Gini Wijnaldum obviously keen to show Liverpool what they've let go and PSG what they are getting.

Willem Mevius: The Dutch play 5-3-2 (or 3-5-2) to compensate for their missing stars in central defence. However, for that tactic to work you really need a ball playing central defender who can distribute the game from the back.

Ukraine work it out from the back really well, switching it from left to right before losing the ball on the edge of the Netherlands' box.

The hosts slow it down in the middle.

It's ridiculous we've not had any goals yet in this game.

Vitalii Mykolenko does really well to step past Denzel Dumfries on the left for Ukraine but his cross comes flying in with way too much pace.

Roman Yaremchuk can't get his head on it.

Roman Yaremchuk cuts inside off the right but he scuffs his shot from the edge of the box.

The Netherlands' defence gave him far too much room.

A really enjoyable opening to this game.

I'm loving Georginio Wijnaldum so far. He has played a more reserved role for Liverpool but he is making unmarked runs and looks a real goal threat so far.
