The Germany game was not just a humiliating defeat for Portugal, but the reality check for a team whose level of confidence going into a major tournament had never been so high.

For the first time, the Selecao were viewed as strong contenders rather than dark horses. The hype had escalated to such a point that the whole debate in the country revolved around whether this was the best Portuguese side of all time.

They will need to overcome a psychological hurdle that has troubled them in the past but that they assumed they had moved beyond. The thrashing by Germany revived it - an inferiority complex that left them trembling before games against big teams and held them back from fulfilling their potential in the past.

The build-up to tonight's game in Germany has been somewhat overshadowed by a row over the use of rainbow colours at the Allianz Arena.

Uefa has declined a request to light up the stadium in rainbow colours before the match.

Munich mayor Dieter Reiter made the request in protest against a new law in Hungary that bans the sharing of any content seen as promoting homosexuality and gender change to under-18s.

Uefa says it denied the request because of the "political context" - a stance Reiter described as "shameful".

What a difference a single football result can make to the outlook of a nation.

Germany came into Euro 2020 pretty down on its chances of success following a few years of upheaval, attempted reboots of the side, muddled thinking and a scheduled managerial change. The opening 1-0 loss to France, while not a disaster show, didn't help.

But then came the 4-2 win over holders Portugal, which showcased a swagger and skill few felt Joachim Low's lads were capable of producing in this tournament.

Now, there is renewed hope in Germany and a growing fear across the rest of Europe. Are the old tournament war horses going to ride again?

France were held to a surprise 1-1 draw against Hungary, needing an Antoine Griezmann goal to come from behind.

Attila Fiola had fired Hungary into a famous lead with chaotic scenes in Budapest.

Germany tore Portugal apart with an impressive attacking performance in Munich.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a record 12th Euros goal but two own goals helped turn things round.

Germany won 4-2 in the end.

One enforced change for Germany for whom forward Thomas Muller is injured. Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane is handed the chance to impress in the place of his club-mate.

Other than that it is the same XI that destroyed Portugal 4-2 in their last match.

Hungary unsurprisingly name the same side that drew 1-1 with France in their second game. They have now done this in all three group games.

They continue to line-up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Adam Szalai and Roland Sallai the forward pair.

Szalai has recovered from the head knock which forced his withdrawal from the France game midway through the first half.

Bruno Fernandes is dropped to Portugal's bench in one of two changes from the Germany defeat.

Joao Moutinho and Renato Sanches replace Fernandes and William Carvalho.

France make three changes from their 1-1 draw with Hungary.

Defenders Jules Kounde and Lucas Hernandez and midfielder Corentin Tolisso come in for Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Digne and Adrien Rabiot.

France: Lloris, Kounde, Varane, Kimpembe, Hernandez, Pogba, Kante, Tolisso, Griezmann, Mbappe, Benzema.

France are already through because even if they finish third, four points will be enough. A win will see them top the group.

Germany and Portugal will both go through with a point, while Hungary will progress if they win.

Everybody took a collective gasp when France, Germany and Portugal were drawn into the same group at Euro 2020 - and it hasn't let us down.

Going into the final round of group games, Germany and Portugal could both be eliminated...

Or else all three giants could go through...
