Germany were not in form today, they were sloppy, they were slow and they were not physical enough. They were not up for it and they struggled, but at least they saved themselves like they often do in the last minutes.

“I think we’re on a really good path. We’ve made it very difficult for three exceedingly tough opponents."

Portugal defender Pepe told Rui Patricio which way to go for Karim Benzema's penalty but Patricio didn't listen.

Turns out Pepe was right and Patricio went the wrong way. Pepe and Benzema are former Real Madrid team-mates of course so he knows him well.

They had, let's say, words after that.

What a pass from Pogba, the weight of pass, the run. Everything about it was perfection. Dias is really slow on the turn but that is an excellent finish from Benzema.

Both teams lacked rhythm and consistency within their performances. In the first half Portugal was the better team in terms of controlling the game but each team had their moments.

Both Germany and England are in a similar situation, position by position. I think it will be a very even battle and it will be about the form of the day.

We saw a different face against Portugal and we saw a different face tonight and England were the same against Scotland and Croatia.

We will see a fascinating game in England v Germany because we do not know what to expect.

Germany's Joshua Kimmich is tonight's Star of the Match, according to Uefa. Not sure about that.

I am a little bit exhausted.

I have to give all the credit and huge compliments to Hungary. They played their heart out, the way they responded to the first goal, they gave everything they have.

Thankfully so, Germany found a way back. It's been a rollercoaster, but that's what European Championships and World Cups are all about, there is no easy game.

Might as well get started with the last-16 chat...

The Hungary players, many with tears in their eyes, are now saluting their supporters, singing together. They have contributed superbly to a great game. And they were so agonisingly close to upsetting the odds and going through to the last 16.

What a night. This is why we love football.

I was completely neutral in this game. No ties to either country. But I feel emotionally drained by that game.

It twisted and turned like a twisty-turny thing. This is a night people will talk about for years.
