Dundee Utd v Motherwell (19:20 GMT)

Motherwell arrive at Hampden today having done things the hard way. Two of their previous rounds went to a replay, including the semi-final against Celtic.

Their journey began at Pittodrie many months ago to holders Aberdeen. It was a tense affair, only for substitute Stevie Kirk to score with his first touch only seconds after coming on to the pitch.

Two home ties followed for the Steelmen, although they needed extra time and penalties to edge out a plucky Morton on a dramatic night at Cappielow.

That booked Tommy McLean's men a place against Celtic at Hampden, and after perhaps being fortunate to get the tie to a replay after Billy McNeill's side had a controversial goal ruled out, the side from Lanarkshire stun the Glasgow giants with a tremendous performance.

Here, Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner watches on helplessly as he is chipped from 25 yards by Stevie Kirk to make the score 4-2.

  3. Post update

Dundee Utd v Motherwell (19:20 GMT)

Jim McLean's side arrive at Hampden Park this afternoon hoping to win the Scottish Cup for the very first time.

The Tannadice side have been runners up five times in their history, including three occasions from 1985 to 1988.

To get here, the first hurdle posed the biggest problem. A 1-1 draw with East Fife forced a replay with McLean's men prevailing in a narrow 2-1 win.

Airdrionians were then despatched before an emphatic Tayside derby win over Dundee in front of 16000 souls threw United into the semi-finals against St Johnstone. John Clark and Duncan Ferguson's efforts earned them their place here today.
