Newport County v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

This is Newport’s first ever League Cup fourth round match – they are looking to become the second League Two club in as many seasons to reach the League Cup quarter-final, after Colchester last season.

Newcastle have won 14 of their last 17 League Cup ties against sides from a lower division, with their 7-0 win at Morecambe in the last round the Magpies’ biggest ever competitive away victory.

Newport County v Newcastle (17:30 BST)

Newport County manager Mike Flynn makes two changes from Saturday’s 2-0 League Two win at Bolton Wanderers, with midfielder Scot Bennett and cup specialist striker Padraig Amond – the joint highest scorer in English cup competitions since the start of the 2017-18 season, no less – replacing Joss Labadie and Ryan Taylor.

As expected, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce makes sweeping changes to the team which snatched a controversial 1-1 draw away against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

There are seven in all so it’s probably easier to go through the four players who have actually kept their places. They are Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernandez, Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron.

Newport XI: Townsend; Cooper, Dolan, Demetriou; Shephard, Bennett, Sheehan (capt), Twine, Haynes; Abrahams, Amond.

Newcastle XI: Gillespie; Manquillo, Krafth, Fernandez (capt), Lewis; Shelvey, Longstaff; Murphy, Almiron, Fraser; Carroll.

In 2018-19, Padraig Amond's late penalty gave the Exiles a 2-1 FA Cup win over a Leicester team which featured the likes of Jonny Evans, James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho.

They then toppled Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough, of the Championship, before losing 4-1 to Manchester City in the last 16.

What is the key to Newport's cup prowess?

"Very good management," boss Mike Flynn says through a smile.

"We have raised our game at the right time. The players deserve the credit. They have taken on the information we have given them and stuck to the game-plan.

"Even against Manchester City, with 88 minutes gone it's 2-1. There are not many teams in the land who are that close to them. Okay we lost 4-1 - that's just the extra quality they had. I said that day I knew Phil Foden was going to be a star. I think everybody else knows it now as well."

Cup specialists Newport County are aiming for another giant-killing when they face Premier League Newcastle United.

The League Two side have beaten Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough in recent seasons and drawn with Tottenham.

County have also beaten Championship clubs Swansea and Watford this season to reach round four for the first time.

"It's going to be a tough challenge," said Newport manager Mike Flynn.
