We've got a north-west derby as former winners Wigan Athletic host sixth-tier side Chorley.

The non-leaguers are looking to reach the FA Cup second round for only the third time in their history, also doing so in 1986-87 and 1990-91.

They may be bottom of the National League North, but the part-timers aren't worried about form.

And they've got plenty of brilliant stories in their squad. Midfielder Ollie Shenton, who usually works a Sunday shift as a butcher, has had to grab permission to miss work in order to make today's game.

On-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder Jake Taylor almost puts the League Two side in front but curls just wide from the edge of the area.

Scunthorpe have grown into this one after going behind early.

Scunthorpe had few complaints after Junior Brown tangled with Cameron Coxe, and Stephen Gleeson tucked home a classy penalty from the spot.

The Iron have since levelled and we've had a quiet few minutes with the play mostly centred in midfield.

Things have changed for both the Bees and the Brewers since the previous - and indeed only - time they met in the FA Cup in 2007.

Then, Burton were the non-league underdogs trying - unsuccessfully as it happened, losing a replay 1-0 - to spring a surprise on then League Two club Barnet.

Now, it is Burton, currently struggling near the foot of League One under Jake Buxton after Nigel Clough's summer departure from the dugout, who are seeking to avoid an upset against their National League hosts.

Barnet overcame a coronavirus outbreak in their camp to beat minnows Leiston with a much-depleted squad in the final qualifying round and they have recent form in the cup, stunning then Championship side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in round three in 2019.

No one, sadly.

Like all of the other FA Cup ties this weekend, this one is being played at an empty Glanford Park.

Let's hope things are different by the time the third round rolls around in January.

What a day out this would've been for the fans of eighth-tier Hayes & Yeading United of the Southern League Premier Division South.

They host a Carlisle side whose last three away FA Cup matches against non-league opponents have seen 18 goals scored, all in wins for the Cumbrians (14 goals for, 4 against).

And the League Two club have progressed from their last 11 FA Cup ties against sides from non-league since a 2-1 defeat by Ilkeston Town in October 1999.

Not great omens for Hayes & Yeading who were knocked out by Oxford United at this stage last season.

Every single lower-league football fan out there knows the pain of losing to a non-league team in the first round of the cup, right? Not quite.

Oldham Athletic, it seems, are immune. You need to be a fairly, er, experienced, Latics fan to remember the last time they lost to a minnow in round one - as it was in 1972 against Scarborough.

That is their only blemish in 24 first-round ties against non-league opposition, an astonishing record Harry Kewell's side will bid to protect at Hampton & Richmond today.

The odds are stacked against the National League South hosts, who have never reached the second round and lost 2-1 to Oldham at this stage two years ago but you never know in this competition...

Torquay and Crawley’s only previous FA Cup encounter was in the fourth round in 2010-11, with then non-league Crawley beating then League Two Torquay 1-0.

Since, Crawley have made themselves part of the Football League furniture, while Torquay have dropped into non-league, slipping into the sixth tier in 2018.

But United are on the up, sitting pretty at the top of the National League having won six of their opening seven games.

They're looking to reach the second round for the first time since 2011. I fancy an upset here.

Almost a second for the visitors but the referee's whistle rules it out!

Scunthorpe are at sixes and sevens at the back and Kyle Hudlin bundles home after an initial save from Mark Howard.

But the referee spotted a handball in the melee and disallows it.

There are some proud FA Cup records on show at Eastleigh today.

The National League side have progressed from the first round on each of the past four occasions they have qualified.

They are unbeaten on home soil in the FA Cup rounds proper, winning two and drawing four of their six games.

However, League One visitors MK Dons have NEVER lost to non-league opposition in the cup, winning 10 and drawing two of 12 ties, and scoring 22 goals in their past six such games. Something's gotta give.

What a dramatic start!

• Struggling league side? CHECK - Scunthorpe are 23rd in League Two, having won just once this season under new boss Neil Cox.

• Progressive non-league side? CHECK - Solihull, managed by ex-West Brom caretaker Jimmy Shan, are flying high in the National League for a third successive season. They have former EFL players Adam Rooney, Jamie Ward, Stephen Gleeson and Darren Carter among their ranks.
• Cup X-factor? CHECK - this is Scunthorpe's first game in more than two weeks after a number of coronavirus-related postponements.

Looking for positives Iron fans? Well, Solihull have never beaten a league side in the FA Cup and are yet to win away this season.
