If you look at the signings that Chelsea made over the summer and look across the team and the one that's made the biggest impact has been the free transfer, Thiago Silva. Edouard Mendy has done well but I don't think he would've done so well if he didn't have Silva in front of him.

A rare chance for Chelsea but Christian Pulisic heads wide from a cross before hammering the ground in frustration. It has been a day to forget for the hosts.

Chelsea make their final change as Kai Havertz is on for the closing stages. He replaces Mateo Kovacic.

This second half is a bit of a non event really. Chelsea are in damage limitation/stay-warm-and-hope-the-clock-goes-faster mode while Manchester City are happy to keep hold of the ball when they have it.

Ilkay Gundogan has been brilliant tonight, he's been on good form. That goal alone, the quality, he's just been part of a team tonight that has probed and looked for the right time to attack and more often than not they've picked that.

Manchester City make their first change of the evening as goalscorer Ilkay Gundogan is replaced by Fernandinho.

Bob Moss: I guess Lampard didn't like Giroud's Christmas present.

Gary Harper: Chelsea players just ambling about. They’ve given this up as a bad day at the office.

Chelsea pick up their third booking of the game as Mateo Kovacic is penalised for sliding in late on Kevin de Bruyne.

Callum Hudson-Odoi provides a bit of the spark that Chelsea have been missing as he gets into the Manchester City box. He runs into a bit of trouble and turns back to Mateo Kovacic, whose shot is blocked.

Nice of the Chelsea players to stand in for the cones for Manchester City's training session this evening.

Absolutely no urgency from the home side in this half.

Edouard Mendy just beats Kevin de Bruyne to the ball as Manchester City come forward again.

A couple of changes for Chelsea as Hakim Ziyech and N'Golo Kante are replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour.

Looks like Kante was struggling with a bit of an injury and asked to come off.

Raheem Sterling picks up the ball just inside the Chelsea half, turns and runs towards goal before picking out Kevin de Bruyne just outside the box. The midfielder takes a touch and then bends a shot wide of the far post.

Manchester City are not in top gear yet still look the most likely to score again.

Manchester City are happy to play keep ball at the moment rather than expend energy going for more goals. Pep Guardiola's side are as comfortable as you like.

When Chelsea get the ball they're determined to play out from the back and it's so static - it's almost like the world stops when they have the ball. Man City just wait and pick their moment and then go and take the ball off whichever Chelsea player they like.

Better from Chelsea and more specifically Mateo Kovacic as the midfielder shows determination to drive through the Manchester City defence before bending a shot at goal that is not too far off.

It's started off the same as the first half finished. Man City narrow, tight defending and picking the points when they can come and get the ball. Then when they do they look so dangerous coming forward.
