  3. 'I've already got in there' - Idah

Portugal v Republic of Ireland (19:45 BST)

Speaking of Ronaldo, Republic striker Adam Idah says he has already used his "contacts" to pitch for the 36-year-old's prized shirt after tonight's game.

"I've already got in there," said the Norwich forward.

"His goalscoring record is just outrageous. Overall, he's one of the best, for me."

What would Roy Keane think of Idah longing for Ronaldo's shirt, I wonder...

  4. How Ronaldo's goals have come

Portugal v Republic of Ireland (19:45 BST)

Here's a little breakdown of Ronaldo's international goal haul.

    31 - European Championship qualifiers

    31 - World Cup qualifiers

    19 - International friendlies

    14 - European Championship

    7 - World Cups

    5 - Uefa Nations League

    2 - Confederations Cup

Almost half of Ronaldo's goals have come in the final 30 minutes of games.

He has netted 31 times in the final 15 minutes and 22 times between the 61st and 75th minute.

Ronaldo has scored 17 times between minutes 16-30 and 16 times between 31-45, with 11 in the opening 15 minutes of the first half and 12 in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.

Some 89 of his goals have been inside the box with 20 from outside. He has scored 14 penalties and nine free-kicks.

Lithuania and Sweden (seven each) are the sides against whom he has scored the most.

  5. Ronaldo's big night

Portugal v Republic of Ireland (19:45 BST)

The Irish will face Manchester United's latest signing tonight - you may have heard of him?

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Old Trafford, but right now he's very much focused on claiming yet another record for Portugal.

If he scores, he will become the all-time leading international goalscorer, surpassing Iran striker Ali Daei's mark of 109 (which he tied when he scored the second of his two goals in a 2-2 draw with France at Euro 2020).

Also, with Ronaldo in the line-up for his 180th Portugal cap, he ties Spain defender Sergio Ramos as the most-capped European men's international player.

Ramos isn't in the latest Spain squad so Ronaldo can move past his former Real Madrid team-mate if he plays against Qatar on Saturday or Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

Southampton striker Shane Long misses out after testing positive for Covid-19.

  8. Welcome!

Portugal v Republic of Ireland (19:45 BST)

It has been five months since that game against Luxembourg.

Fortunately for Stephen Kenny, the Republic of Ireland remembered how to win during their June friendlies, beating Andorra 4-1.

Not-so-fortunately, tonight's opponents promise to cause the Irish a few more problems in a game Kenny's side simply must win after failing to pick up a point in their first two games.
