France forward Antoine Griezmann wins his 100th cap tonight.

He has played his whole club career in Spain and is currently at Atletico Madrid.

"It's going to be a special night. It's a game we have to win. There's a trophy to lift at the end, so we'll do everything to succeed," he said.

"We have the right team to do it. Admittedly, a 100th cap is always quite special. The club of players with 100 caps is a very select one, so I'm very proud and hopefully the evening will end on a good note, too."

He is the ninth Frenchman to reach 100 caps. His boss Didier Deschamps and captain Hugo Lloris are two of the others.

Both semi-finals were thrillers.

France came from 2-0 down to beat Belgium including a last-minute winner.

Spain beat hosts Italy 2-1 to end their world-record 37-game unbeaten run.

Italy won the third-place play-off against Belgium earlier, it ended 2-1 in Turin.

Nicolo Barella volleyed the Azzurri ahead and Domenico Berardi netted a penalty.

Charles de Ketelaere scored a late consolation after Belgium hit the woodwork three times.

Neither of these sides are strangers to recent glory.

Spain won the Euros in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010.

France are the reigning world champions, having won the 2018 World Cup.

France boss Didier Deschamps: "It's impossible to deprive Spain of the ball. It's in their DNA to have the majority of possession. You can press but not just any old how.

"They're capable of passing the ball out even under pressure. They also pressed Italy very well when they lost the ball. The best tonic is winning.

"The evening after the semi-final there was a lot of joy and happiness and it meant there was a lighter mood the next day. It gives everyone confidence.

"Spain have maintained the quality of their play. We have more experience but that gives us no guarantees. We'll need to have all the right ingredients in order to go out there and claim the trophy."

Spain boss Luis Enrique: "Look at France's squad, and their starting XI. They play for top clubs and they are stand-out players, the best squad in the world.

"The three players they have up front are superb and capable of turning any game. But we won’t change anything about our attitude or our ideas.

"We played and beat the best team from the Euros and what better now than to play the reigning world champions?

"I want to win a national title with Spain. That’s something the majority of us have not done. A reminder of how it feels to win a tournament would be good for everyone involved."

France midfielder Adrien Rabiot started in Thursday's win over Belgium - but tested postive for Covid yesterday morning.

Everyone else had negative Covid tests and set off for Milan from Turin without Rabiot.

"We had this news when we woke up this [Saturday] morning because we didn't get the test result until 8am," France coach Didier Deschamps said.

"The players learned about it before the departure from Turin by bus. It is a new thing in a health situation which is improving, it reminds us that the fear is still there."

Spain defender Aymeric Laporte starts against the land of his birth.

The Manchester City player, 27, represented French youth teams over 50 times and made three senior squads, but never got on the pitch.

Earlier this year he became a Spanish citizen and this is his 12th cap for them.

"It will be a very special meeting for me but, as I have always said, I am very focused. I am 100% or even 300% with Spain," Laporte said.

"I'll give it my all. I will face former team mates but the only thing I think about is winning this final, that's the most important thing for me right now."

Spain make two changes from the semis.

Eric Garcia and Rodri replace Pau Torres and Koke.

That means Ferran Torres has recovered from his knock and Gavi, 17, keeps his place.

Two changes also for France.

Presnel Kimpembe and Aurelien Tchouameni replace Adrien Rabiot, who has Covid, and Lucas Hernandez.

Football fans like to scoff and ridicule any changes to the game or new competitions, or anything Uefa or Fifa do, but this is an official tournament.

And there are actually very few proper trophies for countries to win.

Portugal won the inaugural 2019 Nations League final.
