Newcastle are having a right good go. It was dynamic play to go from one side to the other.

Manchester City's recovery to get the ball back as soon as they lose it is incredible. And I have to say the spirit of the Newcastle team, all working for each other, has made this a great game.

Manchester City have seen so much of the ball but despite that Gabriel Jesus hasn't seen much of it in the Newcastle area. He's only had two touches in the box all game.

An early chance for Manchester City as Ilkay Gundogan bends a free kick towards the far post but Jonjo Shelvey does well to flick it behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.

I still don't understand how it came to that result after looking at the penalty. It baffles me. But it is good for the neutral because we have a real good game.

That's the first time Manchester City have conceded twice in the first half of a Premier League game since December 2019 against Manchester United.

I could dig up 10-15 of these from the season where it is not a penalty. I personally think officials have a criteria they are working to around contact.

There is no concept of actually he planted his foot on top of Ake, so no. We've seen terrible ones all year.

Newcastle have scored as many goals in their last seven Premier League games as they managed in their previous 18 games (14).

It is brilliant. Newcastle are brilliant on the counter attack. It was a lovely ball from Almiron to Allan Saint-Maximin. And then Joelinton took it on.

That's the goal Newcastle needed. I love this game and the attitude of both sets of players. Manchester City have been mesmerising at times. Newcastle have defended heroically at times and countered brilliantly. It is set up for a brilliant second half.

Well that was thoroughly entertaining!

I am not convinced.

Allan Saint-Maximin is definitely onside as he ran through in the build up, so surely this is a penalty?

Joelinton goes down inside the box and Kevin Friend blows his whistle, penalty? No it's pulled back for an offside in the build up.

VAR is going to have a look at this though.
