It is pretty telling that the Newcastle player to have completed the most passes so far is their goalkeeper - Martin Dubravka - with five.

In total Manchester City have completed 135 passes to Newcastle's 39.

I think Steve Bruce has done a very good job under the circumstances. He has not spent a lot of money.

He was always on the back foot when he came but they will only get stronger. Hopefully he will get the opportunity to show what a good manager he is next season.

A nice move by Manchester City as they continue to create openings. Ilkay Gundogan plays in Joao Cancelo on the left and he squares for Ferran Torres, who stabs a first-time effort wide.

Manchester City play keep ball as they edge forward patiently. Eventually the ball gets to Ilkay Gundogan on the edge of the area and he seizes the chance to shoot with a bit of space in front of him but sweeps well wide.

Allan Saint-Maximin is one of my favourite players to watch away from the so-called big clubs. He is so dynamic, strong and exciting to watch. He is a fine player.

Paul: Yes, Mr Lennon, £850m over five years will buy a pretty decent squad. I really don't agree that Pep is with the elite of all-time managers.

Mike: No offence to Scott Carson, but gone are the days where the manager is required to field the strongest 11. The Newcastle strikers will be licking their lips.

Easier said than done Mike. They have got to get the ball first.

Gabriel Jesus volleys wide for Manchester City before Joe Willock gets between two defenders but fires a tame effort from a tight angle straight at Scott Carson.

A pretty open start with both sides playing with the freedom of not having anything significant riding on the result of this game.

Nathan Ake then has a chance at the other end of the pitch but rushes his shot on the edge of the area and ball flies well wide.

Joelinton does well to force Nathan Ake to put behind for a corner as the Newcastle striker chases a ball down the flank.

Matt Ritchie's delivery is headed away but Newcastle pick the ball up again before Scott Carson makes a comfortable catch from a Joelinton header for his first bit of Premier League action in some years.

You expect Manchester City to have plenty of the ball. Newcastle will defend with everyone in their own half. Their strength is on the counter attack.

Manchester City, as you'd expect, are seeing a lot of the ball in these first few minutes. They work it down the left through Raheem Sterling who crosses but Newcastle clear.

I think Scott Carson was brought in to support Ederson and Zack Steffen. He's had a great career and still looks in fantastic condition.

I am sure he is looking forward to playing in the big time again. I think it is a nice gesture from Pep Guardiola to give him this opportunity.

It just shows the standards that Pep Guardiola has set, that if Manchester City don't win the Champions League it could end up a major disappointment.

The Holy Grail for them is the Champions League.

The Manchester City players - including debutant Scott Carson - are walking out onto the pitch and getting a guard of honour from the Newcastle players.

One of those City players is also Phil Foden, who was 10 the last time Carson played in the Premier League!

It's clear that Manchester City have been more defensively solid.

The development of John Stones, I give some credit to [Pep] Guardiola but mainly to Stones for recognising he was at one of the best place in Europe to win trophies.

Virgil van Dijk made a huge difference for Liverpool and those key areas make a huge difference for the top sides.

There are a number of players like Nathan Ake, who City have bought and haven't featured but have come good. We barely saw Riyad Mahrez for a while but he has been a key component to what they have done this year.

Going forward they always find a way to break teams down and City have won it without really having a striker. But Pep has played with a false nine and he will go searching for a centre forward.
