When Roberto Mancini was Manchester City manager he went out for dinner with a group of football reporters on the Manchester beat.

I was lucky enough to get an invite and had a terrific evening, Mancini is terrific company.

However, he had a tendency during games to flick his chin in annoyance.

Someone asked him what that meant - he was basically swearing at the referee.

Extra details have been added to the Euro 2020 ball to celebrate the location and the importance of the final three matches in the tournament, while also ensuring that the ball stands out on the field.

These include watermark details of Wembley Stadium, as well as an extra white print for a light appearance. These features are contrasted with signal green, red, cyan and pink brushstrokes, inspired by iconic London symbols and traditional colours, that sit against a dark background representing the London sky at night.

  13. Did Jorginho score a 'Ballon d'Or winning penalty'?published at 08:19 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

Italy 1-1 Spain (AET, Italy win 4-2 on pens)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

"You have to get that so spot on, or you look idiotic."

We've seen Jorginho frequently convert with his infamous hop, skip and shoot penalty for Chelsea, but this was under the highest of pressure.

Miss and you give the opposition a reprieve. Score and you are the hero by taking your side into the final of the European Championship.

With nearly 60,000 spectators watching on at Wembley, Jorginho kept his cool by slotting in the fifth and decisive spot-kick to put delirious Italy through and send Spain home.

"I think [Italy striker] Lorenzo Insigne said Jorginho should be considered for the Ballon d'Or, external. He should after that," Chris Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"How do you do that when there's so much pressure? He watches the goalkeeper Unai Simon to see where he's going to move and you have to have so much courage and conviction to take a penalty like that - and he pulled it off.

"You have to get that so spot on, or you look idiotic. But to back yourself in that moment... that tells you everything you need to know about Jorginho and his confidence."

  20. 'Pure theatre as Italy present formidable obstacle in final'published at 07:36 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

Italy 1-1 Spain (AET, Italy win 4-2 on pens)

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Roberto Mancini looked dishevelled for the first time at Euro 2020, Italy's immaculately-attired coach drained of energy after the triumphant conclusion to a night of high tension and huge quality at Wembley.

Mancini was thrown about by his jubilant players after Jorginho's ice-cool spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out settled a magnificent Euro 2020 semi-final in Italy's favour at the cruel expense of Spain.

This was pure theatre, with a 60,000 crowd at Wembley adding colour to the fight to face either England or Denmark in Sunday's final, the stadium splashed with the red of Spain at one end and the victorious blue of Italy at the other as crowds flocked back in ever bigger numbers after pandemic restrictions were lifted.

Italy's eventual win was worthy of an audience filling Wembley twice over, the joy of Mancini and his players a brutal contrast to the despair of much-derided Spain striker Alvaro Morata, who had actually rescued them with an equaliser in normal time after Federico Chiesa's superb opener for Italy.
