They weren't speaking after England's men qualified for their first major final since 1966. They were talking before the semi-final, when 60,000 people were belting out Sweet Caroline as the teams prepared to take to the pitch. Read more here.

  3. FA fined for Denmark disturbancespublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Italy v England (Sunday, 20:00 BST)

    .

The FA has been fined 30,000 euros (£26,600) for three incidents during England's Euro 2020 semi-final win over Denmark, including a laser pointer being shone at Kasper Schmeichel's face.

Television pictures showed a green light on Danish keeper Schmeichel's face just before Harry Kane took an extra-time penalty.

The fine by Uefa was also for "disturbances during the national anthems" and fireworks being set off.

Prior to kick-off there was some booing heard during the Danish national anthem.

"My memories are of a nation consumed with one thought: winning the World Cup. Everything else in the world faded into insignificance."

Terry Hymans was at Wembley on 30 July 1966, but not as a fan. England were about to make history by winning their first major, and to date only, international tournament. They beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time, but Terry had a job to do, as a young policeman on crowd control duty outside the stadium.

This Sunday, 55 years later, England will be looking to lift silverware again in the final against Italy, back at Wembley. The decades in between have been filled with tales of heartache and anguish, but passion and excitement too.

Here are your stories, from 1966, to the present day.

When the full-time whistle went at Wembley on Wednesday, I, like the rest of the nation felt an overwhelming swell of jubilation, relief, and if I'm honest, utter disbelief.

I also felt an immense sense of pride that it was this group of players, with this manager and support staff, that had written their names into the history books.

As BBC Sport's England reporter, I've been following this team for more than four weeks now - from before a ball was kicked against Croatia. Back then, a reporter who's been covering England for a lot longer than me described them as having bottled up what they'd started in Russia. Somehow, three years in it seems they've managed to mix it up to come up with something even more special.

As a player, captain, fan and pundit I've had so many big moments with England, but Sunday's European Championship final at Wembley will be the biggest of them all.
