I do know that Italy have got a lot of players out, but it's not quite lived up to the standards of passing and touch quality so far.

The consensus from 20:16 is that Bukayo Saka shouldn't be at left wing-back.

Reece James drills in a low cross into the box, which is deflected wide for a corne... actually the referee says goal-kick as he didn't see the clear Italian touch.

England haven't had a single shot in this game, on or off target. The Harry Maguire header from earlier hasn't registered as a chance.

Italy haven't had a shot since the sixth minute.

What a classic game.

Corner to Italy as Federico Dimarco - who is probably getting more joy down the left than England's wing-backs - has a cross blocked by Reece James.

Dimarco's corner is caught by Nick Pope, England's first Newcastle goalkeeper in over a century.

If England manage to get a string of three or four passes and manoeuvre that space, Reece James in behind and with his pace is on all day.

A lovely Italy move - as they carve through England too easily - as Nicolo Barella goes down the right and crosses but Giacomo Raspadori can't control it in the box. I say can't but I mean doesn't - it wasn't that difficult a ball to take down.

Germany have had more than 60% possession but they are yet to have a single effort on goal.

Joshua Kimmich has just gone into the book for pulling back Dominik Szoboszlai as he looks to get clear.

It's almost 2-0 as well as the resulting free-kick is quickly taken and it ends with Daniel Gazdag's effort being smothered by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Raheem Sterling loses the ball to Jorginho on the corner of the Italy box and fouls Nicolo Barella in frustration.

I think England look much fresher, bit brighter but you can see the intent on what they want. It's just that quality, timing of the movement and the support when the ball goes forward has to be right.
