  1. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The creative players that the Dutch have just haven't been able to get a foothold in the game or do anything special - other than that amazing finish from Cody Gakpo that got them the goal.

  2. As it stands

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Group A as it stands table with Netherlands and Ecuador having four points, Senegal with three and Qatar with zero

Ultimately, a draw would suit both sides as both would only need a point from their last games to seal qualification.

Can't see either side settling for that just yet though with 12 minutes plus stoppage time to go.

  3. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Edgar Davids has just trotted out to deliver a message.

The Dutch midfield legend looks as cool as ever. He'd relish the midfield battle in this one.

Edgar Davids and Louis van Gaal
  4. SUBSTITUTION

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Our Brighton contingent swells to three.

Jeremy Sarmiento is Ecuador's first change, on for Michael Estrada.

  5. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Cody Gakpo shows another bit of flair as he attempts an audacious dink over Hernan Galindez.

Finally - eventually - the offside flag goes up.

It was one of those where they really didn't need to wait. He was miles off.

  6. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

No surprise to see the Dutch favouring the left-hand side following Memphis Depay's introduction.

  7. 'Working very hard'

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've seen plenty of energy and drive from Ecuador especially with the way they've run off the ball. They're moving into space and are very unselfish.

As a team they just look better, in terms of them working very hard for each other.

  8. SUBSTITUTION

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Steven Berghuis is on for Davy Klaasen.

Perhaps he can inject a bit of steel into this Dutch midfield.

  9. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

A neat passage of interplay down the left hand side involving Daley Blind and Davy Klaasen results inCody Gakpo teeing up Teun Koopmeiners.

The Atalanta midfielder sets himself but leans back and sends the ball flying into the fans behind the goal.

He ought to do better but at least it's a Dutch shot - their first shot since they scored.

  10. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

The Netherlands are all over the place at the back and another long ball causes terror.

Jurrien Timber is bullied off it by Enner Valencia who cuts back for Michael Estrada. He scuffs his shot and Andries Noppert collects.

Louis van Gaal needs to sort this out as there's only one winner at the moment.

Ed: Netherlands' mistake was not passing forward when they were in the ascendancy after their goal. They have allowed Ecuador back into this with safety first passes rather than incisive forward play. Expect Ecuador to win now.

SMS Message: Enner Valencia is turning into the Roger Milla-esque hero of this tournament. The unexpected, slightly-ageing sharp-shooter extraordinaire. from Gareth

  12. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ecuador are absolutely peppering the Dutch goal at the moment - the intensity, the pace. The Dutch just can't deal with it.

  13. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Emma Sanders

BBC Sport at Khalifa International Stadium

The noise in the stadium is all coming from the Ecuador fans. The Dutch haven't looked like scoring since taking the lead after five minutes.

  14. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

The Dutch are rattled here. Piero Hincapie goes in strongly on Cody Gakpo who looks less than impressed.

Davy Klaasen claims a free-kick and then Denzel Dumfries is penalised for a shove.

    Can Ecuador capitalise?

  15. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Ecuador are knocking.

Virgil van Dijk makes an outstanding block to deny Enner Valencia but he can only watch as Gonzalo Plata whistles a stunning drive at goal.

Andries Noppert is beaten but the ball cannons off the crossbar to safety.

  16. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Bizarrely as Ecuador pump forward, it's Cody Gakpo who is the last man defending.

He looks a bit bemused as he scrambles it out for a throw-in.

That's not where the Netherlands need him to be.

  17. YELLOW CARD

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

Jhegson Mendez picks up a booking for a foul on Memphis Depay.

The Netherlands have a free-kick midway through the Ecuador half but it's headed away by Enner Valencia.

  18. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Emma Sanders

BBC Sport at Khalifa International Stadium

    It had to be him!

The entire Ecuador squad, including the substitutes, huddled around Enner Valencia in the corner. Moise Caicedo, who was involved in the build-up, turns to the crowd and waves his arms in the air.

Valencia is the last to get up off his feet and he gestures the signing of a piece of paper before running back to the halfway line.

  19. Post update

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

That goal restores Enner Valencia as the top scorer in this World Cup.

The next player with the chance to catch him? Why, Bukayo Saka of course later this evening.

  20. 'Just what they deserve'

    Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

    Matt Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Nothing more than what Ecuador deserve from this game so far. The moment this ball gets turned over in the middle, it was a brilliant piece of midfield play.

The ball just pops out wide and all of a sudden there's a one-v-one situation. Virgil Van Dijk stayed inside the 18-yard box, the shot goes in and Andries Noppert parries it out but he can do nothing about Enner Valencia following it in.
