It's interesting watching Virgil Van Dijk - he has a very laidback style and in that back three he orchestrates and looks like he coasts through the game.

He's doing a lot of gesturing, pushing people up the pitch and waving his arms around.

A group of Ecuador fans to my left are getting frustrated at how long Jurrien Timber is taking to collect the ball for throw-ins down the right.

The Netherlands have been pretty casual in general since taking the lead. They don't look flustered, but there's not much intensity to their play either.

It's gone a bit scrappy in the last 10 minutes.

Frenkie de Jong tries to inject some life into it but Gonzalo Plata tracks him and makes a good challenge.

Hernan Galindez then nearly gets in a mix-up with Felix Torres but claims the ball at the second attempt.

One real moment of brilliance, a sharp finish out of nowhere has been the difference in this game.

Ecuador are pushing a little bit harder and actually look a bit more threatening going forwards.

A loose header from Jackson Porozo almost lets Steven Bergwijn in.

No-nonsense covering challenge from Piero Hincapie gets it away from danger for Ecuador.

There's a lot of tussling for the ball in this game at the moment.

Not in terms of tackling or going down but shoulder to shoulder and grappling while they're running.

It's that type of game.

You can see why everyone seems to be linked with Cody Gakpo.

Since that amazing start though, the Dutch have not really got him involved.

There's Enner Valencia again...

He is a threat down that left-hand side. Ecuador have started playing more and more balls over to that side as the Dutch have struggled there.

You can see the Dutch defenders, including Virgil van Dijk, trying to figure out a solution.

Andries Noppert extended for the first time.

Ecuador break and it's that man Enner Valencia once again.

He cuts inside onto his favoured right foot and unleashes a drive that Noppert has to turn behind.

Felix Torres looks a character in the middle of the back three for Ecuador - he's quite animated which I think allows him to go and be aggressive but maybe a bit rash at times so he just needs to be careful with that.

Plenty of pushing and shoving in the box but it's an Ecuador head that gets first contact and the ball is cleared.

Brilliant from Frenkie de Jong to slip away from three Ecuador sentinels.

Jurrien Timber looks to release Cody Gakpo but a vital intervention from Piero Hincapie gets it away.

The Dutch have a corner and this game has livened up again.

The Netherlands have dominated a lot of the ball but Ecuador are more direct when they have it. They are having a good spell here and their fans are on their feet in anticipation.

Ecuador have started to find some joy down the left wing in the last five minutes.

The Dutch are looking a bit short on that side.

Enner Valencia escapes down the right this time, in behind Denzel Dumfries. Michael Estrada tries a clever flick from his cutback but it's not read by Angelo Preciado or Moises Caicedo and the Dutch scramble behind.

Jude: Watching the Netherlands is like watching City. Results achieved in the main but as exciting as empty tin of beans.

Angelo Presciado's cross in is scrambled away by the Netherlands and then Moises Caicedo breaks free on the right and tries to tee up Enner Valencia.

Virgil van Dijk is in the right place to clear.

Seconds later, he's there again to head away Pervis Estupinan's dangerous ball from the waiting Michael Estrada.

Once again, Denzel Dumfries nips in and takes the ball of Pervis Estupinan but referee Mustapha Ghorbal rules it a foul.

Dumfries is perplexed but the chance to counter is gone.

It's all a bit quiet at the Khalifa International Stadium - on the pitch anyway.

Louis van Gaal's side aren't operating a full court press but as soon as Ecuador cross the halfway line, a swarm of orange shirts descend.

Denzel Dumfries nips in and tries to instigate a one-man charge downfield.

He's crowded out and Felix Torres clears.
