  1. 'Poland have to thank Szczesny'

    FT: Poland 0-2 Argentina

    Alan Shearer

Former England striker on BBC One

It was unbelievable. It got a lot better and Argentina were better in the second half, they moved the ball a lot quicker. Got the victory they deserve. They could and should have scored a few more. But Poland have got their keeper Szczesny to thank for getting them through to the next round because he was magnificent tonight.

Aleks: Mexico may have showed up and turned up tonight, but don't forget they would've lost to Poland in face to face meeting were it not for Ochoa's heroics, and weren't any better against Argentina than Poland is today

  3. Post update

    FT: Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

    Ashley Williams

Former Wales captain on BBC Two

Madness. That was such a good game of football regardless of who went through.

Chris: A shame Poland get rewarded for that. Can't see anything but an easy France win in the next round.

  5. Post update

    FT: Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

The last World Cup last 16 without Mexico was all the way back in 1990. End of an era.

  6. Narrowest of margins

How crucial Wojciech Szczesny's first-half penalty save from Lionel Messi proved.

Poland squeeze through as Mexico are left sick as the proverbial parrot.

    Group C table.
  7. Post update

    FT: Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

One Mexican goal would have taken them through at the end - on goals scored.

So that late Saudi goal hadn't really changed anything.

  8. Post update

    FT: Poland 0-2 Argentina

    Andy Cryer

    BBC Sport in Qatar

Wow. The Poland players are now celebrating on the pitch and the red and white flags are waving.

I'm not sure they can quite believe they have made it.

  9. Post update

    FT: Poland 0-2 Argentina

The Poland players and fans are happy now! Their display here didn't produce a single thing to cheer about, but all's well that ends well, right? Right?!

Maybe the Polish fans at home should calm down first before they try to answer that.

  10. FULL-TIME

    Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

    It's all over.

    Poland are through.

    Mexico are out.

    Saudi Arabia are out.

  11. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

We're past the seven minutes. Raul Jimenez clatters the keeper and heads wide anyway.

  12. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

Mexico come forward and have a free-kick. Surely too late. Another Saudi booking.

  13. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

Mexico have a minute left and need to score.

  14. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

    Danny Gabbidon

Former Wales defender on BBC Two

I can't believe what I'm seeing. Saudi Arabia looked dead and buried. They'd offered nothing. That is a hammer blow for Mexico.

  15. GOAL - Saudi Arabia 1-2 Mexico

    Salem Al Dawsari (90+5 mins)

    Mexico are going out.

They have to take risks and leave so many spaces at the back. Salem Al Dawsari takes advantage with a one-two in the box with Hattan Bahbri and calm finish.

  16. Post update

    FT: Poland 0-2 Argentina

    Andy Cryer

    BBC Sport in Qatar

It's over here and it's fair to say the Polish players and fans don't look as though they have a clue if they are through or not.

They are - unless Mexico score in injury time.

    The phones are out.

  17. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 0-2 Mexico

Saudi Arabia are on the attack. Surely not!

  18. Post update

    FT: Poland 0-2 Argentina

Argentina dominated from this from start to finish. Poland didn't even try to win it.

They are through as it stands, and only events elsewhere can change that...

  19. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 0-2 Mexico

Saudi Arabia have received 13 yellow cards in the group stage, a new record for a team in a single group stage in World Cup history.

    All about yellow cards tonight.

  20. Post update

    Saudi Arabia 0-2 Mexico

It's all down to Mexico now. They need to score. Forget yellow cards, forget Argentina.
