Spain qualified for the quarter-finals as the winners of group C.

It was a pretty comfortable path through the group stages for the Spaniards who picked up back-to-back 2-0 wins over Turkey and Belgium. Their 100% record was only stopped by a late Serbia penalty that saw them draw 1-1 in the final group game.

Portugal found their way through to the quarter-finals as the runners-up of group D.

It was a flying start to the group stage as they ran out 5-1 winners over Scotland, it was much the same in their second game with a 4-2 win over Sweden. It looked like they would top the group comfortably, but a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Denmark saw Portugal drop to second place.

The beautiful game. The national game. The world game.

Football is a phenomenon. Hundreds of millions of people across the globe live and breathe it, playing it with their friends and watching their heroes.

But don't be content to just watch it. Lace up your boots and get your foot on the ball to take part in perhaps the most easily accessible sport there is.

Football gives you an all-round workout. Players run, kick, dodge, sprint and jump, and constantly twisting and turning your body increases endurance, promotes agility and develops physical co-ordination.

Football also promotes teamwork on and off the pitch, as many teams socialise together.
