Ousmane Dembele's goal settled an entertaining friendly 3-2 in France's favour when the two sides last met in Paris in June 2017 - despite Les Bleus playing almost the whole second half with 10 men.
While some things never change - Harry Kane scoring twice for England that night, including a penalty after Raphael Varane's red card - some things certainly do especially in terms of the Three Lions' line-up.
The French personnel is strikingly similar with Hugo Lloris, Varane, Dembele, Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and Adrien Rabiot all involved that night plus Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante, who would be in Qatar if not for injury.
But England that night fielded Tom Heaton, Jack Butland, Phil Jones, Aaron Cresswell, Gary Cahill, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dele Alli and Adam Lallana, with Jake Livermore, Chris Smalling and Ben Gibson among the subs.

The AC Milan striker became France's leading men's scorer when he put his side ahead in their 3-1 victory over Poland in the last 16 of the World Cup.
But on his momentous day - when he scored his 52nd international goal - the former Chelsea and Arsenal striker was upstaged by team-mate Kylian Mbappe's stunning showing.
Didier Deschamps' men mean business as they aim to defend their crown and their charge is being led by veteran 36-year-old striker Giroud and 23-year-old sensation Mbappe.
"This is the competition of my dreams," said man of the match Mbappe, who scored twice and set up Giroud's goal. "It is something I have been preparing for physically and mentally.
"We are doing well but [we are] a long way from the objective of winning the final."

'Family comes first'

England boss Gareth Southgate, speaking to ITV about Raheem Sterling: "We have to wait and see. The priority at the moment is family. We will support that and give him as much time as he needs.
"He is going home. I really don't know. At the moment it is a situation he needs time with his family to deal with. I don't want to put him under any pressure with that. Sometimes football isn't the most important thing and family comes first."
Sterling leaves England squad after armed break-in at family home
Raheem Sterling has left the England World Cup squad in Qatar and returned to London after armed intruders broke into his home with his family inside.
Manager Gareth Southgate confirmed the news after Sunday's 3-0 last-16 win against Senegal.
"Sometimes football isn't the most important thing and family should come first," said Southgate.
It is understood the incident happened on Saturday night. Sterling has three young children.
According to a spokesperson for the player, Sterling was "shaken" by the news and "as soon as he was alerted he wanted to get home, concerned for the well-being of his children."
Southgate added: "We want to give him that space and we will see over the next few days how that develops."
