It was a perfect delivery - low and in between the keeper and last defender. McCallum pulled off the defender and was at full stretch - he couldn’t have stretched any further. The ball in was absolutely perfect. What a great, great moment.

GOAL: Eastleigh 1-0 Readingpublished at 23 mins

    Paul McCallum

Lovely goal from Eastleigh that shows everything they're good at.

This time Enzio Boldewijn gets the space he wasn't afforded before, threading Scott Quigley in down the right.

Quigley fired a low cross in which travelled through to the back stick, and there was Paul McCallum to stretch out a toe and prod it in.

Matthew Carson does well to hold up Eastleigh winger Enzio Boldewijn as he breaks into stride.

Little bit scrappy at the moment.

Richard Hill is up on his feet barking instructions and kicking every ball.

Chesterfield have been on fire so far this campaign.

The Spireites are sitting pretty eight points clear at the top of the National League, and are unbeaten at home in all competitions this season.

Paul Cook's side have progressed to the third round two years running and will be confident of making it three in a row after they dumped League One high-flyers Portsmouth out in the first round.

Leyton Orient are still finding their feet in the third tier after a stellar promotion campaign last year.

Winless in five games, Orient's last victory came in this competition - a 3-1 home win over Carlisle United.

The O's will be keen to get their form back on track, but Chesterfield have not looked like losing on their home patch this season.

I can't wait for this one, which is on after overnight snow was cleared from the pitch.

  5. 'It's the fans who suffer'published at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

    Mick Gooding
Ex-Reading player/manager on BBC Radio Berkshire

Hopefully they’ve used all their tennis balls now. There were about a hundred of them thrown onto the pitch. I do understand the fans’ frustration - and today’s the ideal opportunity for them, with the game being on TV. It’s always the fans who suffer.

After a clear-up operation, we are back under way.

Femi Azeez scuttles down the left, looks like he's going to cross but instead rolls it square to Charlie Savage for Reading, but as he opens up his body the curling shot sears just wide of the target.

Eastleigh have been targeted down their left so far.

Reading fans launch their protest, through fake money, tennis balls and a pyro.

A big banner reads 'Dai Yongge Out', referencing of course the Royals' current owner.

The players, meanwhile, are taking chance to reset, get fluids on and take stock.

Rattled away by Charlie Savage. Reading clear their lines.

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

Eastleigh work the ball through midfield, and Chris Maguire seeks to release Scott Quigley but can't.

Free-kick though. Maguire to hoist in from the right....

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

Healthy crowd and vibrant atmosphere as both sides' fans have turned out for this one.

Reading fans have apparently planned a tennis ball protest on 16 minutes - symbolic because of the amount of points they've had deducted in recent seasons.

  11. Tricky start for Readingpublished at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

    Mick Gooding
Ex-Reading player/manager on BBC Radio Berkshire

Femi Azeez hasn’t had a great start. He influenced things against Wycombe but has given the ball away twice already.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 11 mins

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

Amadou Mbengue feeds the ball down the line for Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan as Reading press their claims.

George Langston comes across to challenge but gives away a free-kick on the edge of the Eastleigh box.

Booked. Danger. It would appear, until the free-kick sails harmlessly wide from Matthew Carson.

  13. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

One of the players tasked with unlocking Eastleigh this afternoon is Charlie Savage, the son of ex-Leicester and Derby man Robbie Savage.

He's a bit more low-key than his dad, but full of energy in the same manner.

  14. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

First sting of the palms with a genuine effort comes from Eastleigh captain Jake Taylor, who lashes at goal inside the box from the right, but making the save is Joel Pereira.

The ball sat up beautifully, and he caught it well enough to force a good save from Pereira who beat the ball up before catching it.

Anonymous: Santa really is real he brought us a Tyne and Wear derby. C'mon the Toon Toon black n white army.

Terry from Kent: Spurs fan here standing outside Etihad Stadium. Saw we drew Burnley at home. Should be a good game if we have our players back. As for today, we who are about to die salute you.

Ben: As a Newcastle fan I’m buzzing about the opportunity to play Sunderland - that being said, given this game is sandwiched between visits to Anfield and the Etihad in the league, not to mention an already threadbare squad (I dread to think where we will be in January giving the attrition rate), Sunderland should fancy this as an opportunity to cause an upset.

Anonymous: Leeds have now been drawn away in the FA Cup 13 times in a row, which makes me believe the club has been cursed.

Helena in Slovakia: Shrewsbury vs. Wrexham (no disrespect to Yeovil) will be worth a trip.

You certainly can't miss Eastleigh striker Paul McCallum with his shock of blonde hair.

Femi Azeez again gets away for Reading and seeks to thread in Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, but he makes the run too early and is offside.

  17. 'A huge opportunity' for Eastleighpublished at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

    Joe Partington
Ex-Eastleigh defender on BBC Radio Solent

This is an opportunity for this Eastleigh team, who are massively talented, to write their moment of history for the football club. The FA Cup for National League clubs is a huge opportunity to do that.

  18. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Eastleigh 0-0 Reading

Another chance for Reading, as Femi Azeez is given plenty of time to run at the Eastleigh defence, but his cross-shot sails wide on the curl.

  19. Postpublished at 1 mins

First burst from Reading, who win the ball robustly on the left and press forward, but the cross from Ben Elliott is too strong and goes out for a throw on the opposite side.
