  1. 'Definitely best sides in league'published at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    HT: Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

It has been typical of a game first v second. We are definitely seeing two of the best sides in this league.

Ipswich are coming off that really poor result; 4-0 against Leeds, they are trying to get their season back on track and that is what I am seeing.

When it started to cool down Leicester put some really nice stuff together.

Though this Ipswich team really got the crowd back on side in the last five minutes.

So far, so good for Leicester City.

The leaders have a nine point cushion over second-placed Ipswich in the live league table and a 13-point advantage in the race for automatic promotion.

Stephy Mavididi's lovely curler from an angle is the difference, but Leicester might have had more, given a bit more luck or judgement in the final third.

Ipswich have played their part but have yet to muster a real chance.

A good advert for the Championship, nonetheless.

  3. 'What a tackle from Faes'published at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Owynn Palmer-Atkin
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

What a tackle that is from Wout Faes, a last-ditch slide tackle puts it behind for another Leicester corner.

He came from nowhere to put it out, brilliant defending.

  4. Postpublished at 45 +1 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Leicester's Wout Faes is the latest to showcase his defending skills, with a sliding intervention to prevent the ball reaching the lurking Wes Burns at the far post.

Some YouTube compilations will need updating after this one, make no mistake.

  5. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Four added minutes at the end of the first half.

Very watchable stuff, thus far, but I'm mildly disappointed.

  6. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Leif Davis has nine assists this season and his corner from the Ipswich left causes chaos.

City keeper Mads Hermansen is awarded a free-kick by the referee after taking a tumble, after failing to gather cleanly.

It remains the season of generosity, apparently.

  7. 'Ipswich press and aggression so good'published at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

    Matt Piper
Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

The press and aggression from Ipswich has been so good.

What has not been great tonight has been that some of the touches have been too heavy, but some of their early passes have been really good and quick.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 38 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Vaclav Hladky to the rescue for the hosts as Stephy Mavididi threads Patson Daka in the down the left of the area, only for the keeper to fly off his line and block his low shot behind with his ribs.

Leicester looking very much like champions, it must be said, even though it's December.

  9. 'A really good test for Leicester'published at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

    Matt Piper
Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

Clearly Ipswich are a confident team, second in the Championship and this is a really good test for Leicester.

  10. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Superb recovery tackle from Ipswich's Harry Clarke to deny Stephy Mavididi as he burst into the area.

He and Cameron Burgess have provided vital last-ditch interventions in the last few minutes, otherwise the Leicester damage could be a lot worse.

  11. Tractor Boys ploughing lines wellpublished at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

    Mick Mills
Former Ipswich and England captain on BBC Radio Suffolk

The pressure on the ball is good, holding the defensive line is good as well and we win a free-kick for offside - from holding that good defensive line.

  12. Mavididi goal 'arrow-like'published at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

    Aaron Paul
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

That's what Leicester can do - they've taken the momentum of George Hirst going off and converted it into something positive. It's a great initial pass to Stephy Mavididi, Harry Clarke miles out of position, but the hit from the Foxes number 10 is arrow-like - different gravy.

  13. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Kayden Jackson picks up a loose ball just outside the box after some good pressing in midfield but can only drag the bouncing ball wide of goal from 20 yards out.

A rare shot despite plenty of crosses from Ipswich so far.

  14. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Ipswich spring a break down the right but Wes Burns just underhits a ball across goal.

Leicester centre-back Jannik Vestergaard is in the right place at the right time, otherwise we might have seen a chance for Harry Clarke.

  15. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 28 mins

Leicester are screaming for a penalty.

Jannik Vestergaard picks out Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who gets the wrong side of Ipswich defender Cameron Burgess, who makes a recovery tackle inside the box.

Did he get the ball? Well, Leicester don't think so. But referee Sam Barrott thinks otherwise and the game goes on.

  16. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

Leicester are the worst team in the Championship to fall behind to. When they have gone in front they have won 16 and drawn once. Can Ipswich find a response?

  17. 'Mavididi does it in style'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Ipswich 0-1 Leicester

    Matt Piper
Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

I say week in, week out much this boy keeps impressing me.

I think he has stepped up to a whole new level now.

It was an incredible turn from Stephy Mavididi, he only has one thought in his mind and that is finding the far corner and boy does he do it in style - around the full-back and the goalkeeper.

You knew it was in as soon as it left his foot.

What a goal for Leicester City.

    What a finish.

Ipswich are punished for leaving Stephy Mavididi of all people in space on the left of the area, the ball is spread wide by Patson Daka and Mavididi takes a touch and bends a curling shot inside the far post with Vaclav Hladky at full stretch.

Was his starting position a little close to the near post? Perhaps. But that's a stunning finish nonetheless.

    The leaders are ahead.

  19. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Ipswich 0-0 Leicester

Connor Coady for all the world looked like he was going to handball a deflected cross from the Ipswich right but all his Premier League and international experience leads him to whip his arm out of the way at the very last second and pop his pec in the way instead. Good decision, Connor. Would have been a nailed on spot-kick, VAR or not.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20 mins

    Ipswich 0-0 Leicester

That'll be it for George Hirst. He tries to soldier on but his right hamstring, by the looks of it, says no and he sinks to his haunches.

Leicester reject, sing the away fans. No festive spirit there.

Kayden Jackson takes his place for Town as Hirst limps a lap of the pitch to the tunnel.
